I find one-sided "racism" amusing. In a totally unrelated topic, some people were saying that RuPaul's Drag Race was "racist" because two black drag queens won two years in a row. I read some articles that stated the very idea of people calling RuPaul's Drag Race racist was, in itself, racist! Apparently white people can be racist but black people can't be? And, if you accuse anyone of racism against white people, you're being racist?? LOL
So, then, can we say that this topic is, in a sense, racist?

It is clear that if we didn't have male and female Tony categories, only males would get nominated.
So I think they should have new categories, "best WHITE actor in a musical", "best BLACK actor in a musical".
That way, white people and black people are equally nominated, so it is not racist.
Boycott the Tonys until they do this

Orfeh should get her own category so she can win every year. She would pass that Angela Whatshername easily.

Why stop there? Why not "Best performance by a Gay guy in a Straight role."?
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

To answer the original question, maybe that's just how the voting turned out. Or the nominators, as a whole, thought other performances stood out more in a competitive field. If you mean to imply something racist, how do you explain the nominations for African-Americans Montego Glover, Sahr Ngaujah and Lillias White in musicals? Or the nominations for Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Stephen McKinley Henderson, David Alan Grier and Jon Michael Hill in plays? Plus, there are nominations for Bill T. Jones and Branford Marsalis.

I explain those nominations by saying they were OBVIOUSLY given out as mistakes by what is OBVIOUSLY a group of nominators who parade around town in white hoods and burning crosses.
OBVIOUSLY.
OBVIOUSLY.

Mayber they were afraid to monimate any more black actors because, as you have pointed out to us, too many black people in a theatre audience can cause a ruckus. They might start talking back!

I am shocked and appalled that males weren't considered when casting Annie. Females have played Peter Pan and Oliver and Tiny Tim. Why can't a male play Annie?
