Every new musical this season is going in a Shubert house except two. Thats 12 out of 14. The other landlords have musical revivals. Does Shubert prioritize new musicals?

1) Shubert has the largest number of houses by a big margin

2) Shubert has 12 theaters with less than 1,200 seats. Nowadays, a lot of producers would prefer to put a show in a smaller house to allow for a tighter ticket, instead of a vast 1400+ seat house –– especially for shows that originated off-Bway or at smaller nonprofits.

3) 6 of Nederlander's 9 houses happen to be occupied by shows that opened in a previous season. 4/7 of the ATG/Jujamcyn houses are filled with shows from previous seasons. By contrast, Shubert only has 3/17 shows continuing from a past season. (#s based on what is currently running.) The length of a run can't really be predicted and everyone likes longterm tenants.

4) Things just sort of work out this way sometimes.

I think Ermengarde made it clear. Ok Mods, time to delete yet another useless thread from the FLASH!

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

Also, let's combine a little math lesson with a big ethics lesson.

1. The subject line says "all."

2. "All" = 100%.

3. Inside it says "12 out of 14."

4. 12/14 = 85.71%

5. 85.71<100.

There is also a little lesson in probability (the dataset for which Ermengarde has graciously supplied) but we will leave that for another day.

Moving on to the ethics lesson. When you present "clickbait," you are in essence saying that your objective is to mislead people. Misleading people is unethical. Intentionally misleading people is heinously unethical.

Unethical=bad.

Heinous=bad.

Clickbait=bad.

3 bads don't make a good.

Be good, guy; it's a better look.

Yes because I’m sure a thread about this subject is really clickbait. Please.

Wait, I'm confused. A thread should be deleted because you think the person who started it just wanted attention? I thought it was an interesting question, though I also think Ermengarde gave a great answer.

Why are all of your responses on here rude?

This website needs a downvote feature. “Useless thread?” Seriously? OP made a valid question and got a response, but also opens up to more discussion. Just because you’re not happy with a thread or what OP asks doesn’t mean it needs to get deleted. OP isn’t trolling.

I guess rude is in the eye of the beholder. I find it rude to post incorrect information, hyperbole, and clickbaity nonsense that wastes everyone's time. FWIW I also find it rude to post things that are off-topic, as you did.

You can delete it yourself by using the ignore function in settings.

None of this was clickbait - a valid/interesting question/observation with a good answer - also, DUDE, take a breath and your "ethics" lessons.  Is this your first day on the internet???

Every response has an attitude. It comes off as an entitled person with an all knowing God demeanor. I’m surprised no one has called you out on it before. Not everything needs a book report response. While not towards me, I’ll use Taffy’s suggestion of the block feature.

I have been called out on it before, but the only attitude I have is that I don't appreciate laziness in posts and that's what the OP's was (in addition to having a false subject line). I do believe that if someone starts a post, we should be entitled to something more than a waste of our time. Ermengarde was kind enough to provide a fine example of a higher standard.

I have been called out many times here, which is fine because I stand by my point. Flash has also been called out many times for the sort of insipidity on display in their post. If they want to stand by that, they have every right to do so. But not without being called out. We can aspire to something better, however.

FWIW, I thought OP's observation was interesting and something I hadn't thought about till it was posted. The only issue is that it was posed as a question instead of as a fun fact about where the shows were opening.

C'est la vie.

I thought your original analysis was spot-on.  Essentially I was thinking what you wrote, but too lazy to do the work to support your comments.

Ironically, whether or not they typically prefer new shows to revivals, I would bet that the Shuberts would have preferred this season to get Cabaret and Merrily into a Shubert house over a number (most? all?) of the new musicals that are booked into Shubert houses.  I would imagine that, by the end of the season, those two shows will have opened with the biggest advances and probably been the two biggest hits of the season.  I have not read anything about Cabaret's sales to date, so it may not be selling as well as I assume, given its prices and the fact that Eddie Redmayne's star is a little less bright than it was a few years ago.

Shubert will be lucky if 4 of their musicals this season run more than a year. BTTF, Hell's Kitchen, and Notebook all look promising (financially speaking), but a lot of unknowns beyond that.
