Why didn't the Legally Blonde perform at the 61st Tony Awards?

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Because it wasn't nominated for Best Musical.

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll perform on next year's show.

You know, I don't have a problem with the Tony telecasts spotlighting previous Tony winning shows that are still running. But there is no need to bring in pop performers ill-suited to the material to decimate classic show tunes.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Oh come on, frontrowcentre2, it's not like they're not gonna join the cast of CHICAGO sooner or later anyway....

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It's been over 2 years & you are STILL wondering about this?

If you're referring to me wondering about why they didn't perform.

Then what gives you the impression I've been wondering about it for 2 years? It's possible I could have only realised they didn't perform until yesterday. Or only thought about it till today.

Consider not everyone is from the US, so we don't watch every Tony award Broadcast, and I'm not too informed in the specific rules (i.e. must be best musical to perform, which is the most insightful post in the topic, IMO).

It used to be that only the best musical/best revival nominees got a slot. However, that year they began kicking around the idea of giving all the currently running new shows a slot, but there was a bit of kicking and screaming from various producers and it was dropped. They did manage to get that in the following year, thus giving The Little Mermaid, and A Catered Affair segments on the telecast, though shorter than the actual nominees received.
