I saw THE GLASS MENAGERIE last night and really liked it. I'm curious why the critics (at least Brantley) didn't like it? Why didn't audiences take to it? I guess that's why it's closing early? Thoughts?

There was a really great production only a couple of years ago, that was loved by critics and audiences alike. I think this was way too soon.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

Why is it closing early? It's not selling enough tickets. Why is it not selling enough tickets? There are two whole threads, one for previews and one for reviews that explain people's meh reaction to it. And as far as why the critics didn't like something, don't they generally give an explanation in their review?

I enjoyed the production, but it was not well-attended. I paid for an orchestra seat (because I just don't like the mezzanine in that theater) and most of the people around me had discounted tickets from TKTS or TodayTix and the like. Quite a few only went to the show to see Sally Field (but only at a discount). It just did not pull in enough money to last until the original closing date.

I appreciated this production more than I actually liked it, despite excellent performances by Field and Wittrock. It would have fared much better in a smaller, more intimate house.

Because it's awful, and word of mouth got out, leading to low sales.

A mixture of bad word of mouth and poor critical reception (that was undeserved in my opinion, i thought it was quite good) and just a general lack of interest, I think. They need to stop reviving shows so close together, there needs to be a reasonable amount of time to allow the most recent production to be less present in people's minds, which is what I think was the kiss of death for this revival - the 2013 revival was barely 4 years before this one and it was pretty much universally loved - there wasn't enough time for people to, well not to forget necessarily, but to be less enthralled by that production - in my opinion, anyway,

A lot of people are purists, especially those who think if they are paying the Broadway price, the production should stay true to "the author's intentions"
