Carlos. It was all started by Michael R from the NY post. He was constantly reporting on her absences and was always reporting on the difficulties Bernadette and that failed production of Gypsy were having.

Fans love to own the rights to the adoration of lesser-known budding performers. It's an esoteric member-only sensibility. As soon as the performer starts getting recognition and a following from the mainstream, then it's no longer "special" to be supportive of them and the opposite happens. While it was cool to be in the minority of fans, once they have broader appeal to the common folk, you can only retain your level of coolness by being in a minority of detractors.

I remember the surge of love for Marissa when she started in Hairspray and even during the pre-Tony buzz. But as soon as she was nominated up against Bernadette, the tide started to turn and when she actually won, she was massacred. Did she actually change or do anything differently? Was it her fault for winning the Tony? Nope. Didn't matter.

But since posts were deleted ... maybe it's already reached the Four Alarm Fire level, and I just haven't noticed it.

I thought most people around here were still in love with her.
