Why is Patina getting Anne Hathaway style backlash?

You are right. We will have all the "how could she have won thread"s. Just like the Marissa one going on now. "

Make no mistake Bernadette is the underdog in this situation. Her performance in GYPSY attracts a lot of criticism (see: your posts in this thread).
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

in regards to the Anne Hathaway situation. People seemed to think she wasn't sincere and humble enough in any of her acceptance speeches. I actually read an article about it where the author picked apart every speech she gave this awards season. Complaining about her thanking her husband and all that. Personally, I didn't have a problem with any of her speeches. She just won a bunch of awards. She doesn't need to be humble lol.

As for Patina - I haven't seen Pippen yet but I would like it. I have no problem with her and she seems amazingly talented and like she could be a nice person. I think there often has to be a "versus". Like back when the 9 to 5 fans warred with the RoA fans. It was as if there wasn't room enough for both shows. Yes, 9 to 5 eventually closed but that doesn't mean there had to be any fight between the two. There's room enough for fans of everyone and there's no need to fight. If one person likes Patina and another person likes Laura that's okay. No need to put down one to raise up the other.

I have seen Cinderella and I loved it. But I'm probably biased because I love Cinderella in general. The story has been a favorite of mine since I was a little thing.

"I blame her Mother for naming her Patina.
I's not a real name and not a pretty visual."

I always think of food when I hear her name. Patina is a big restaurant and catering company out West.

"I think it is truly obnoxious of broadwayworld.com posters to start bashing a performer for missing performances. Theater actors are human beings and are not immune to getting ill, personal problems, etc."

We're all human beings. If you or I missed work as often as some of these performers for anything less than a terminal illness, it would raise eyebrows as well.

I don't understand why- if it's a longterm issue- the actors can't just announce a temporary leave of absence instead of just disappearing or creating gossip about their hit or miss attendance.

Murphy went on to open up about how the Weisslers kept her from doing exactly this. Her vocal issues got that bad because she kept going on without fully healing, which of course only made the situation worse, especially after Reidel took it upon himself to tarnish her reputation.
I think the backlash for Patina will be inevitable if she wins, Hathaway is certainly experiencing it now the way Renee Zellweger (whose career hasn't recovered) and Nicole Kidman (who took almost ten years to regain her status) had to experience. For some reason we love starlets on the way up but cannot wait to take them down as soon as they reach exactly the kind of success everyone wanted for them.

Well, if I missed a bunch of work for illness, I wouldn't be fired, but I certainly wouldn't be winning "Employee of the Month".

(Who am I kidding, I'm self-employed.)

Anyways, all I know is that I regret seeing Kinky Boots instead of Pippin on my recent NYC trip. I hope the best for Patina, she sounds fantastic on the album.

^ ...and speaking of Sister Act, many feel her performance has not differentiated itself sufficiently in Pippin whereas Osnes, the perception seems to be, was much different in B&C and therefore has shown more range.

As much as I adore Laura Osnes, she is one of the last stage actresses I would commend for having a wide range. Not that Miller has an incredibly expansive range, but I did feel like her performances in SISTER ACT and PIPPIN were two different entities. They had their similarities, to be sure, but they did feel substantially different to me. Osnes, talented as she is, is very "ingenue"-y...even in her performance as Bonnie. She was good in the role but she lacked that darker edge the character so desperately needed. I just wouldn't say she has shown that she has a broad range yet. The characters of Bonnie and Cinderella may be on two completely different ends of the spectrum, but I don't think Osnes' performances were.

I personally think Miller should win. And I think a likely PIPPIN cavalcade of sorts on Sunday will carry her to a win.

She may have been by others, but not by me. I didn't see very much "edginess" in her performance at all. At least none that was convincing to me.
