Why is Patina getting Anne Hathaway style backlash?

Where is the hate coming from? What has she done wrong? Or am I sensing something that is not there?

Apparently, if there's a negativity, it's the inexplicable urge to antagonize arbitrarily. I never understood the Anne Hathaway thing, or the MATILDA thing, or any backlash, really. The level of emotional attachment to their fandoms in some people baffles me.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

People be jealous of real talent. They can't stand it so they talk trash. Let's see them get up there and do 8 shows a week or win an Academy Award playing a french prostitute.

I never understood the Anne Hathaway thing either. The Matilda thing I kind of get since I didn't care for it.

Likewise. Here and elsewhere. Again, the obnoxious minority makes it sound as if Patina is reviled. It's mostly a handful of trolls.

The only backlash I've come across was during that week she was sick and missed performances. And sometimes from Laura Osnes fans insisting that she will win.
I know you. I know you. I know you.

Do Osnes' fans hoping (or thinking) she'll win really qualify as Patina backlash, or vice versa? And I'm not certain that opining someone may have been miscast or might not have given a great performance as "wrath." I adored Murphy in WONDERFUL TOWN but found her tiresome in THE KING AND I. I don't think my opinion qualifies as "hate" or "wrath" or "backlash."

I think it is truly obnoxious of broadwayworld.com posters to start bashing a performer for missing performances. Theater actors are human beings and are not immune to getting ill, personal problems, etc.

Audra McDonald addressed how she was getting bashed when she had to miss performances of PORGY & BESS because her doctor put her on vocal rest.

It was very clear from that interview that she reads, or someone in her camp reads this board because the things she quoted were literally almost verbatim to the obnoxious, hateful and judgmental posts made by some of the people who frequent this board.

She went on to say, "What do these people think? That I'm home eating bon bons because I didn't feel like going to the theater?"

She went on to say that these people had no idea whatsoever how hard it was for her not to go on. To be staring at x-rays of swollen vocal chords and holding back tears and only wanting to do what she needed to do to heal properly and get back onto that stage.

But no, the know-it-alls on this board won't have any of that.

Dude. That's Anne Hathaway. I was asking about Donny Hathaway, that's the only Hathaway that matters to me. But thanks anyway...nice to be able to win an Oscar for playing a singing french whore for 15 minutes.
