When I saw the show I thought it was hopelessly "Eh." But then after the over-exuberance and over-exposure on this board and the disasterous performance on the Tonys and my legal Napster downloading of three songs (why did I throw more cash in the Wicked coffers?) it is now just a huge giant "ICK" to me. Anybody else?
Oh dear. This is going to get so ugly.

Well, ugliness is a matter of perception. If anything gets ugly around here I will degreenify it!

Wicked "Yay" in my opinion, but everyone is allowed to have their own opinion so I wont get mad at u Namo...I really didnt like Avenue Q too much so...I guess it could go either way
I liked it. Its the hype i dont like.
Personally, I like it. But I can see how overexposure can make you hate something. Last night these teeny-bopper obsessive girls behind me talked about Wicked for the entire hour we waited for Cheno. They were talking about things I didn't even think the general public would know about unless you worked there. And they didn't know a thing about other Broadway shows. This little boy was in Dracula and he told them that and they said "What's that?" And they proceeded to say how Wicked just is not good without Kristin and how Defying Gravity is the most moving thing ever. I almost hurled. I love Wicked as much as the next person but that in itself could make me hate the show.

Yeah I agree. If everyone wasnt so "WICKED IS THE GREATEST MUSICAL EVER" or "WICKED SUCKS *SS" it would be ok and I think everyone would respect it. Now people just love to argue over everything. Leave the musicals alone.

"I love Wicked as much as the next person." Much, much more if the next person is me.
I love the show. I love to talk about the show. I think that if overexposuree can make you not like something, you need to rethink about how you live your life. People are allowed to like something and not be a broadway fanatic. I know it bothers people because a lot of Wicked fans only like Wicked and no other broadway show, but it's better than not liking any broadway at all. I mean, think of what Wicked has done for broadway. As it was pointed out in a previous topic, so many shows are closing. But Wicked has drawn people from all over the country just to see it; it can only do good. If you liked the show, and now you don't because of the overexposure, you obviously didn't like the music enough to actually like it. Becase overexposure doesn't change the way the show is done, or the memory of the performance you saw. right?

I agree. I really like the show when I saw it, but now that everyone is obsessed with it, it lost a lot of its charm.

No no no, I dont think they meant about Wicked, but about entertainment in general. You shouldnt let others obsessive behaviors control the way you look at a show. Like it or dislike it because you want to, or cuz it wasnt ur thing. Its like Rent. I liked it when I saw it, then my friends started obsessing and I began to not like it. Now I realize that was stupid. Now I respect the story and music
It's not necessarily that we hate the show - I haven't even seen it yet - it's that we don't need 45 threads on it, while so many other shows in the history of theater go undiscussed, or barely so.
I love this show. When I first saw it in San Francisco, I took my wheelchair bound litle brother with me(I'm a Big Brother here in DC) who happens to suffer a devistating handicap. We flew out there because his dream was to see this show and I wanted to make it happen. By the time we got to the theatre, word had gotten out to the cast that we were there (Thank you Make A Wish Foundation) and we were invited to go backstage and meet with the cast. Timmy's dream was realized that night when they asked him if he would like to put on a costume and be one of the flying monkeys. Tears ran down my face as I saw that monkey in a wheelchair flying accross the stage, knowing that his dream had in fact come true.
So for that reason, WICKED will always hold a very special place in my heart.
I understand its okay for people to like Wicked and just that, but if someone claims to be a Broadway fan then doesn't know about any other Broadway shows playing at the moment...ehh. I still love Wicked, even if the overexsposure is incredibly annoying. Notice I said it was enough to make me hate the show, not that I actually did hate the show. And true, at least they do like Broadway. But overexposure can make something lose its charm or make it annoying. The media does that to a lot of recording artists, teeny-bopper children can do it to Broadway shows. It doesn't make my memories of the show any different, and it doesnt make me think the acting and singing are any less exceptional, it just gets to be a pain sometimes.
Matt_G, your a freak
(And I meant that in a totally loving way)
About overexposure. I like Wicked a lot. But when I joined here i loved it. I mean lOVED it. (can u tell by my posting name). But SOOO many subjects about WICKED almost killed it for me. and not just about the shows, musical numbers, Idina's vacation, the relationship between Cheno and Idina, the new cast, technical questions. Some people asked things that were asked just 3 days before! Overexposure can change a persons perspective on a show. Because with me, every post about WICKED has gotten SOOOOOOOOOO annoying I started to get annoyed with the show itself. Therefore lowering my extreme love to a like alot.
plus the more people say that its the best show ever the more you see its flaws.
Matt-G, just wait, someone's gonna take that seriously. *waits*
Complete ick. It's an embarassment.

Ur right, it is sad. There are sooooooo many other shows and musicals out there. i love wicked too, but we're never all going to like it. who cares. its no big deal. we should just like it cuz we do. so many posts here are about avenue q and wicked. expand thy mind lol. the more we talk about it the more we're all gonna hate it and thats not fair to the show and all the people who worked on it, specially cuz a lot of us like it now. so...how about those guys and dolls huh lol? (trying to change subject)
:)
First off, Timothy was not a joke and that was something that I'll always thank God that I got to give him.
OMG Matt - that gave me the chills. What a beautiful story.
