Kristin Bell as Glinda
Was Anne Hathaway not rumored for Elphaba?
There. Done. No Idina. or... Kristin
Now, the whole Anne can't sing... she can and only has to get it right once in the studio.
Oh no, please, I LOVE Idina threads.
I also like this, love
but at this point Kristin Chenoweth is a television and film success

I'm all for Kristin as Morrible though.

Actually, never mind. Meryl Streep is better.
But...Kristin is a television and film SUCCESS!
Blaxx, when I keep seeing a performer's face and hearing a performer's name when I have not seen or listened to them in anything for half a decade, it seems a good bet that they are a success.
I don't think Idina has any major acting skills. However, I do think she has a particulary hearty, expressive voice, and I was less than impressed with her initial replacements in the show.
I just can't imagine any movie star who could do as sufficient a job with songs like "The Wizard and I" and "Defying Gravity." I'd be pleasantly surprised if someone could, though.
Also a good point mentioned above - the actress would only have to get it right in the studio once. Anne Hathaway though? I'd have to see it to believe it.

Two words: Miley Cyrus.
I'm not surprised that the date has been pushed back so much.
RENT was slated to be directed by Spike Lee in 97.
But then it sodomised by Columbus in 05.
I think the fan-base'll help it achieve marginal success, but that doesn't really say anything about it's integrity as a film.

Then it's ok, love. We'll forget her triple Razzie nominations.
Manny, thanks for your articulation - the integrity of the film is basically what I'm talking about. If we're talking 2016, obviously the original duo couldn't do the parts, but heaven help us if we end up with a talentless box office draw like Cyrus (although who's to say if her career will last until 2016; actually, it probably will not).

That's what people said about Britney... and who's on a world tour right now?
Quick Miley Cyrus joke though: I was at Shrek on Wednesday and Chris Seiber rode in on his horse, and it made that horse noise (a nay, I guess) and Chris said, "Woahhhh, Miley Cyrus!"
Razzie nominations? News to me. I haven't seen any of her big or small screen performances. I just keep hearing about them. I believe she got an Emmy nod this morning.

Love, the film could start shooting tomorrow, and they would still not be in it.
It's not that I'm not fond of Eyedina.
I just truly believe that my dog sings better, and my dog died two years ago.
It might help to learn to read, Blaxx, or at least to differentiate different things you read. I am waxing on the caliber of OBC talent as compared to Hollywood talent concerning a movie I have no interest in seeing made. What does that have to do with wanting to see the movie filmed "tomorrow?"

Oh I read...I read about this "OBC talent vs Hollywood talent" -
The stage performers would likely not work at all in the parts, neither commercially nor artistically, they are just not big enough for this size of film.
And recent history proves that bringing the original cast to the screen works wonders!
Not.

I want Tim Burton to direct it.
I think it'd be hilarious- it'd give me a reason to go see it.

Now to be fair, Blaxx, a lot of the problems with The Producers stemmed from the very static and stagey direction. An experienced film director could have been more than able to make that movie work with that cast.
Blaxx, on a commercial (and logical) standpoint I agree with you in most respects here. I have yet to hear your suggestions as to who might be suitable movie star replacements for these two roles, though. Personally, I cannot think of any. But you never know. There's nothing I like more than being surprised by a performer who I'd undestimated. Can I see any major stars equalling the talent of Idina and Kristin? Right now, no. No one has brought up anyone yet who seems to make sense based on my prior vocal knowledge. If Anne Hathaway can actually sing, though, she would probably be an excellent choice to bring in box office numbers. Can she outsing Idina though? I'd eat a hat if she did. It's hard to question the validity of vocal concerns - this is, after all, a musical.
Of course, we are all free to dislike certain singers, too. :-P
Again, though, this film should not be made. If it is it will be assured its place on the shelf of kitsch.

I think Miss Piggy could outsing Idina, but I'll remind you of the hat when time comes!
ANY movie can work with the right creative team.
I love Miss Peggy's "Never Before, Never Again!," by the way. I don't think she could take on Idina, but I'd be willng to see them have at it.
:) Just so you know, it's a hat made out of tortilla chips.

Does it even matter if she can outsing Idina? Could Audrey Hepburn outsing Julie Andrews?
^ No, she couldn't. That's why they had her dubbed. When was the last time you saw a movie musical that was dubbed?

One film adaptation I'm excited for:
Jack Goes Boating.
I love the cast, and never got to see the play, so I'm excited about seeing it.
Phillip is directing, which I'm sure will be interesting.

Uhh, I think that was the point - she couldn't even sing, and still got the part.
I'm reading this thread and I'm literally laughing out loud at everything blaxx types. Blaxx is at it again.
