I'm assuming that this is probably going to happen....but if something happens to where the Org. cast didn't come back who would you not mind seeing in the movie.
You know if Kristin didn't do it for example I'd like to see Megan Hilty do it.
I can tell you for sure that no one who has played any of the roles on stage will do it for the movie.
I'm pretty sure the Box Office disappointments of both Rent and The Producers have made it so that a non-movie star is never going to get cast in a musical movie ever again...
Gobstopper has the most epic avatar EVER.
This gets asked about every 10 days I've noticed for the past year and a half.
Difinitive Answer:
Elphaba: Meryl Streep
Glinda: Ellen Degeneres
Fiyero: Seth Rogan
Nessarose: Dakota Fanning
Boq: Samuel L Jackson
Wizard: Zac Efron
Madame Morrible: Harvey Firestein
Dr. Dillamond: Beyonce Knowles
Just so there's no more debate....
Can Mandy Patinkin be Dr. Dillamond? He already sounds like a goat so he wouldn't have to practice much.
I just don't think it should be a movie. But if it becomes one, I will grab a front row seat and much on popcorn in waiting for the imminent train wreck.

Kristen Bell as Galinda. Not sure for Elphaba... maybe Rashida Jones?
I am both excited for the prospect for the movie, yet I just know I am gonna be disappointed...
It should be Idina and Kristin for God's sakes. There are no female performers equally or even close to as appropriate for the parts that have superior movie-carrying abilities. It's not like they don't have fan bases, and even for people who don't know them the prospect of a "Wicked" movie itself will be excitement enough.

People really think that Kristin would be a good choice for this movie?
So IMDB has an anticipated release date of 2016. You really want an almost 50 year old Kristin (by that point) playing a character that is supposed to be around 20? On the silver screen? With High-Def technology? Hope they are willing to pull out those old movie tricks and coat those camera lenses in a whole lot of Vaseline like they did for Ms. Ball in Mame. And by that point Ms. Menzel will probably be pretty grateful for that cloud across the lenses as well.
2016? Youch!
Still, I don't hear you mentioning any alternatives. Especially with Idina, it's impossible to think of any suitable actresses who also can draw solid box office numbers based on their names alone.

...Rudy. Who have you seen as Elphaba?
Oh my goodness, Kristen Bell as Glinda would be PERFECT! I love her.

You know, I really want them to get a film actress. But, I just realized... Nicole Parker is a film actress! Who just happens to be talented in the musical theatre department as well.
^ I am not familiar with Nicole Parker.
I saw Idina, Eden Espinosa and Shoshana Bean as Elphaba. I never saw Kristin as Glinda.
Are you trying to tell me that I am overestimating the abilities required of the actress' vocal abilities? Perhaps I am. I thought Shoshana and even Eden came nowhere near the sound I heard Idina produce.

This has to be a joke.

Absolutely agree. The closest I've heard was a dying goat.
The movie will fail, because so much will need to be changed, that every eliminated "clock-tick" will send shock waves throughout the entire fanboy and girl community, causing a rebellion.
Why don't people understand adaptations NEED to change in order to work?
If you can't understand that and still want to see it on screen, stick to your glorious bootlegs. Then move on.
Blaxx, I thought you would at least make me laugh.
Who on Earth do you think is a genuine movie star who can bring to the role vocally what Idina brought? I have never seen a performer with such a stronghold on teen and tween girls, either - isn't that the show (and movie's) target audience?
Perhaps another actress with more box office draw could vocally handle Glinda, but at this point Kristin Chenoweth is a television and film success. People know her outside of the Broadway community. Without the 2016 release date, I don't see what the problem would be.

What did she bring?
I'm just guessing, but I take it you did not fancy Idina in the part?
