Can we please get Eva Noblezada as Elphaba please? She sings part of No Good deed in her Diva Medley and its marvelous.

I'd love Julie Andrews for Morrible, she could pull of the role well and it'd be eat to see her in another musical film especially a large fantasy role as a villain. It could be a real Swan Song to her career before retirement.

Don't expect any real talent in this film. They will step into the same pitfalls as always.

Choosing the language of singing and then apologizing for it by using actors that moan, speak and bleat their way through the material. And then try to act in spite of it. Actors that completely fail to master the craft and only succeed in scenes where they have to look miserable while doing it.

Completely failing to understand that acting flows out of singing organically. Which creates an unnatural feeling style clash for the audience, which is constantly forced to switch between a spoken word and a semi-sung word. Undermining the importance of the quality of singing in a score like this is the deathblow for the film. Because the arftorm per definition loses its sincerity. It feels forced and artificial if you don't follow the natural balance in the chosen language. Natural emotion lies not in apologizing for the singing. It lies in embracing it.

MARRY ME PLEASE, YOU'VE SAID THE THING! I've never found a way to concisely explain why singing is just as important as acting in the world of musicals, film OR stage. At least with certain musicals. There's a reason why potential Elphabas have to sing the end of Defying Gravity three times in a row at their audition. Other musicals are absolutely more for the actor who sings, but let's be honest, Elphaba is for the powerhouse singer, PERIOD.

I'm not sure about Julie Andrews because she no longer has her four octave range that made her a legend.

Um, the role of Madame Morrible requires as much singing as the role of Henry Higgins in MY FAIR LADY.  Julie is more than capable of talk-singing and add some vocal embellishments as have the countless of actresses who have played Madame Morrible.

True since it's not that demanding. But playing a villain can be interesting that way she can develop a different range as an actress. Also I never saw My Fair Lady even though she did originate Eliza

I don’t know. I’m sorta tired of seeing Julie Andrews play the villain.

Here is Rex Harrison talk-singing Henry Higgins in the 1964 film adaptation of MY FAIR LADY:

They are the roles that are far more fun.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Madame Morrible has to be one of the least vocally demanding roles in musical theatre. My vote, however, is for Imelda Staunton.

Hahaha!! I was actually watching Harry Potter and the order of Phoenix the other day and was thinking how her role was basically Morrible.

Since when has Julie Andrews played a villain besides Despicable Me? Nothing else comes to mind besides Camelot, but I don't know if I would count Queen Guinevere as a villain.

Hope someone from BWW can interview Schwartz and update us on the movie soon. With a 2019 release date I'm sure they'd want to film it later this year but the fact there's no casting or even a sniff of production design attatched I'm doubting we will see this anytime soon.

I feel like casting doesn’t get announced until shooting begins. Since they are aiming for a late 2019 release I’d say filming wouldn’t start until the fall.

I wouldn't even count the mom in Despicable Me as a villain either. It's a side character, who's more there to give us more background on Gru, she's doesn't propel the plot as the actual villain. I WILL say I'd love to to see her as Morrible! But Julie is a lady with such class it's hard to imagine, but I'm totally for it! And we all know Imelda would SLAY it, it's absolutely a slightly different version of Umbridge, but of course Morrible came first Wicked OFFICIALLY coming to theaters
