Lea Michele as Elphaba, Jonathan Groff as Fiyero, Amanda Seyfried as Glinda and Patti LuPone as Madame M.... Thoughts?

Film is slated for release in 2019 not 2009.

Don't scare me into thinking that was a real casting.
i wonder if the timeline for the movie production and release will be altered now that Daldry is rumored to be the new frozen director.
Also to get a bit off topic I wonder if a movie adaption of the musical bully Elliot will ever come about.

I wish it was a real casting!
and the Billy Elliot movie actually came out in 2000

he meant movie based on the musical. the film that exists now is what the musical is based.

Amanda Seyfried has a very weak and thin voice. She would be very miscast.
LuPone and Groff aren't big enough names to sell a movie.
Lea Michelle isn't a talented enough actress to pull off a big budget movie musical.

Quite frankly, I can't think of any name Hollywood actresses who would be well cast in either of the lead roles. They're either going to be miscast or have to be lesser-knowns with the rest of the cast as "names" to balance them out. But what about Grant Gustin for Fiyero? Decent actor capable of at least a little nuance, fairly charming, nice voice, and enough fame from The Flash (and leftover from Glee) that he could bring some fans along with him.

Gustin would actually work quite well as Fiyero bwayrose7. Good pick!
I still can't think of anybody for the two leads either. They're such monumentally iconic roles that nobody feels like a "perfect fit." I'm still predicting that Elphaba will be somebody along the lines of Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, etc.
And nobody other than Anna Kendrick for Nessarose, please.

My hope is that they cast Glinda and/or elphaba as unknowns and then cast the supporting roles with a list actors who can sell the movie.

Wicked with Broadway Theatre is coming to the Kennedy Cntr this December as well XD

Liza Minnelli as Madame Morrible. Giving THE WIZARD OF OZ and WICKED it's full circle connection. Her singing voice is up to the role's requirement so it's not unrealistic for her.

They could give the two leads to unknowns. In terms of film talent, the best choices I came up with were Daisy Ridley and Emma Stone...

In my opinion, Lady Gaga is the best choice for Elphaba. She has the look and she can sing it better than anyone. She would be perfect.

Not gonna lie. I really like this idea.

There's a thread going on about dream filmmakers working on movie musicals, and it reminded me that this is still supposedly happening. Any new word on it at all?
Posted: 9/1/17 at 8:35am
I suspect we will hear casting news by the end of the year for a 2018 start of filming so after it wrapped that’d give them a decent amount of time for post-production for that December 2019 release.

Uhhh I doubt very much this would get a Holiday release in 2019 against Frozen 2.

Honestly I think they either star for Elphaba and cast an unknown Glinda, or get Idina and Kristin. Yes they are too old, but I can't imagine anyone being upset about them being in the movie.

That's what people said about Rent too....

The last update I could find was back in May where Stephen Schwartz said he was planning to write at least two new songs...

This, Sunset Boulevard, Streisand's GYPSY - the stars associated with these projects aren't getting any younger. Let's hope the cameras start rolling on the ones which are indeed happening.

Marc Platt did say that this on track. But, filming should be happening early-mid next year though
