Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

It's completely different. The double-cast actors never played scenes against themselves.
Had Judy Garland played Dorothy and the Scarecrow, you might have a point.

Think possibilities!

I'm just using your examples.
Think critically!

Posted: 12/18/06 at 6:03pmI think in the movie musical version of Les Mis the same guy should play Valjean and Javert, and Cosette and Eponine should also be the same person.

Posted: 12/18/06 at 6:09pmReese is too old for Glinda- she's supposed to be in college! Anne Hathaway would be fabulous as Elphaba, but by the time the movie comes out, she will also be too old.

If Reese and Anne are too old for Galinda and Elphaba, then Chenowith and Menzel in the movie are absolutely ridiculous. Chenowith is pushing 40, Menzel is in her late 30's. Reese is only 31, Anne Hathaway is still in her 20's. Reese and Anne are inspired choices for these roles if a film version of WICKED has to be made.

REESE IS TOO OLD? GIVE ME A BREAK! That's a babyface if I ever saw one. I swear, people throw the "too old" card around on this board just to be bitchy.
Reese would be perfect as Glinda. I'd have to hear her hit the high notes first though. Having her play both parts is silly. One is enough.
Beyonce = ALL WRONG
Elphaba should be a theatre veteran (Hey, imagine THAT). Reese's star power would be enough to carry a film.

Posted: 12/18/06 at 6:21pmlizzy i find a particular irony that in one post you managed to call reese witherspoon too old to play a college student but say that kristen chenoweth is ideal to do so

LMAO Sueleen.
How many of the people posting in this thread even know who those two are?

Oh dear! LMAO, Sueleen.
Of course it could have been worse...Susan Lucci and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Idina Menzel wasn't even college age on the audition of WICKED, much less now.
What about Tyne and Sharon? I'd see that.

In response to Kringas's comment: "It's completely different. The double-cast actors never played scenes against themselves."
In the movie "Adaptation," Nicolas Cage played against himself to great and inspired dramatic effect. No gimmick there but, rather, art.

You are right, Millie. How foolish of me not to draw that parallel myself, with that painfully logical leap from the double-casting in The Wizard of Oz to the double casting in Adaptation. Perhaps Charlie Kaufmann could write the Witherspoon/Witherspoon Wicked screenplay. I hope they're lesbians, too. Those girls were lesbians in Fried Green Tomatoes and it really added something to the story.

I, of course, agree with Kringas. We don't need the Good and Evil theme bashed into our heads anymore.
I mean, isn't it enough one of the songs begins with
Good and evil -
And their merits -
Men have argued through history -
As well they should!
My philosophy
Any child can see -
"Good is evil -
And therefore
All evil is good"
Oh, wait...

Posted: 12/19/06 at 1:05amI think Elphie and Galinda should buy a clunker of a house just like Tom Hanks and Shelley Long did to hilarious comic effect in The Money Pit. Can't you just see Elphie getting stuck in the floor? And Galinda having an affair with a Russian guy?
