re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

I haven't posted on here in a while but I'm bored and this is getting crazy so I wanted to join in.

First off I need to rant a little to everybody who keeps saying everybody on earth is too old, because that is just stupid. First off, in movies or especially theatre people never play their real age. rarely ever. almost every "teenage" or high school show and especially movies are played by actors in their 20's and 30's they just look younger and they have some fancy makeup and lighting tricks that work wonders. So just stop being stupid and if your gonna comment on how people are too old at least give us the younger option because I can't think of any 19 or 20 year old who could pull off either role. oooh maybe Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff can patch up their beef long enough to do it? lol.

Anyway, my opinion is that Kristen and Idina are the best and really the only choice, they can pull off the young look for film with make up and lighting help. Meryl should be Madam Morrible, Orlando Bloom could be Fiyero if he can sing, and who really cares who the wizard is.

If they don't go with Kristen and Idina, then I think Reese is a great choice for Galinda, Anne would make a horrible Elphaba because she can't sing good enough.

re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

This is what my ideal cast would be if one is still to be made.

Elphaba - Idina Menzel
Glinda - Kristin Chenoweth
The Wizard - Nigel Planer or Joel Grey
Madame Morrible - Carole Shelley
Fiyero - Norbert Leo Butz or Cheynne Jackson
Nessarose - Katie Rowley Jones
Boq - James Gillan
Dr. Dillamond - William Youmans or Martin Ball

Someone, I can't remember who though, said Anne Hathaway as Elphaba and Reese as Glinda. :)

re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

Reese would really be perfect for Glinda.

Casting the same actress in both of these parts makes no sense. The original Broadway casting was great because the two women playing the roles seemed to be such complete opposites in every. And I think it's really great if Glinda is sweet and innocent looking, but Elphaba has a quirky, unconventional beauty.

Jess....Mandy Moore? Can't we at least look into casting a girl with some balls to do the role?

re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

Reese Witherspoon really annoys me, so I don't vote for her as Glinda. I don't care who it is as long as the woman can sing and she's not Reese Witherspoon.

Anne Hathaway sounds interesting for Elphaba, but I don't know if she has the vocal power to pull it off. I for one would love to see Idina Menzel recreate the role on film, but by the time it gets made she may be too old even with makeup & camera tricks.

Thanks evadiva! that's so nice :)

Nice...*gasp* like Glinda! I vote evadiva for Glinda!!! re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

and just because I know you are all to shy to say it aloud...YES I will play Elphaba...there it's said. Now we can all stop ignoring the pink elephant in the room.

hehe...
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

SueleenGay, I'm late as hell, but your post made my night. Robin looks gorgeous green.

re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

Reese would be a great Glinda but certainly NOT Elphaba. She is impossible to have any sympathy for and even with training could never sing like Idina. I say cast the OBC. What's so bad about that?

re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

You are all mad as hatters - y'all know it's going to be

The Duff sisters - Haylie as Elphaba and Hilary as Glinda

or Mary Kate and Ashley (would it matter who's who)

If not them - Paris and Nicki Hilton

or if you're talking about one powerhouse taking on both roles - it's sure to be Dakota Fanning

Oh.. and you know if Disney was making this, it'd be Vanessa and Ashley from High School Musical playing the roles - with Zac Efron as Fiyero and Corbin Bleu as Boq

Come to think of it - Disney could do a whole series of films with that cast

High School Musical: Grease
High School Musical: Guys and Dolls
High School Musical: Hairspray

just think how you could use that cast over and over again in straight to video sequels

yeh, MMC skits are not a good judge of acting ability. She was great on SNL though, and she sure acts the hell out of her songs.

If she held back, i think she would be a better singer.

re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

Katherine Mc Phee for Elphie...
laugh if you wont but.... she's gorgeous, she's got the chops she's train in music theatre, she looks amzing on screen and she'd have some pulling power for the movie (not that it would need it) because people would be curious just to see what she's like...
I wish Idine could do it though, screw the age thing, teens are always played by 30-somethings anyhow..

Re: Reese
She is impossible to have any sympathy for

Lizzy, are you telling me that you're excited enough for the Legally Blonde musical to have it listed in your favorite shows and yet you never felt any sympathy for Elle Woods in that movie?

I'm going to chime in with the Reese & Anne supporters. There doesn't need to be a Wicked movie (because everything would look so incredibly cheesy on screen, and not in a good Hairspray or Dreamgirls way), but if there is, I want them in it.

re: Wicked movie: Inspired casting idea

how bout...jessica simpson and ashlee simpson...jessica is ofcourse galinda...ashlee the green girl
hahaha jk!

i would just love to see people who can really sing the roles in the parts...i think the show needs singers first as oppose to an actor first like reese...i would rather see a famous singer than a famous actor if it must be a big name

but if we use broadway people why must it be the original cast...i think that they are too old and that the story is already so unrealistic...i think someone like anne though is not too old..mid 20s to late 20s...remember on stage u can take liberties! i think it would be great to use broadway people...up and coming broadway people (so they are young) who have never played the roles on stage...id like to avoid throwing the show on film like the producers and rent...i want the people to recreate...to be coming to it with a fresh pt of view
