Will FOLLIES be nominated/win any Tonys for 2012?

What about Bernadette or Elaine being nominated - do you think this production is Tony worthy?

Bernadette will obviously be nominated...and I'm sure the show will be nominated for a few Tonys....the winning part is the most interesting discussion though, I think.

I think there will be lots of nominations for it, but there will be tough competition from EVITA. Especially for Best Actress and BEst Revival. Saw EVITA in London in 2006 and its an incredible production.... Broadway is in for a treat

If Jan's performance is as spectacular as everyone says, I'd say she's a lock for a nomination. Sally may be the lead, but Phyllis is a much showier role. Remember that Alexis Smith won and Blythe Danner was nominated, while neither Dorothy Collins nor Judith Ivey were even nominated in the past.

Good Lord, the show hasn't opened in NY yet and people are wondering whether it'll be nominated for any Tony Awards! What about the rest of the season? Will there be shows better than FOLLIES? Will there be performances better than Bernadette's? Will it be any less of a show if it doesn't get any nominations at all?

Honestly, this obsession with Tony Awards is absolutely freaky!

I think that Bernadette will be nominated, but Jan's performance is so electrifying and haunting that it might score her her long-overdue trophy.

I think it's safe to predict that Follies will be nominated for costumes and scenic design. Peters seems pretty safe because it's Peters.

I don't really see the set being nominated. It's nothing spectacular. The costumes certainly deserve to be nominated.

^Yeah, the Loveland set was a letdown. Unless Derek McLane has some divine intervention between D.C. and Broadway, it might actually cost him a nomination.

At this point, Follies is scheduled to run through the end of the year. Assuming it closes then, it will be a distant memory come May 2012. It's great that New York will see this production, but, historically, Tony voters have very short memories.

The Scottsboro Boys- 12 nominations
Ragtime- 6 nominations
Finian's Rainbow- 3 nominations
In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play- 3 nominations
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown- 3 nominations

All recent short-lived shows that weren't totally forgotten.

In a perfect world, Maxwell would finally get her long overdue Tony Award and not have to take others to put in her bag.

Who knows what will happen by May of 2012, though.

This time last year we all assumed Women on the Verge would be the commercial hit of the season.

It appears that the nominators have long time memories but the voters do not. I think aspects of this show (performances) will be remembered at Awards time.

It may not happen often, but it's not uncommon. In recent years, both Julie White and Michele Pawk won for shows that had been closed 4-6 months by Tony time.

I agree with Dollypop. This Board's extreme obsession with Tony Awards is plain ridiculous, and constantly reading about them has become very tiresome.

Really? The set is bad? I liked the photos I saw of it but I'll defer to people who saw the show. I figured the demand and variety of sets would be enough, but I could be wrong. Did they just do a bunch of projections for the different settings?

I think the only Tony nomination this production could count on would be for Best Pillow.

Saw this in DC on the last night. I could easily see the four leads being nominated. Whether they win or not, remains to be seen, but I would be surprised if they weren't nominated. The set, not so much. The costumes definitely.
