Believe it or not, that clip of Partick Wilson singing the beautiful "On the Street Where You LIve" was the first time that I have seen him. He has a better voice than Michael Hayden--how was his acting in the 1994 CAROUSEL? Michael Hayden's acting was superb. Patrick Wilson looks so young to have played Billy Bigelow. I would like to see him on Broadway in the near future.

I really don't want him to be uber-famous. And he's done a lot of really good work that deserves attention. Sometimes I think he is such a good actor that you don't recognize 'Patrick Wilson' anymore. I saw him in Hard Candy, Phantom of the Opera, A-Team, Lakeview Terrace, and Watchmen before I saw him in Insidious and put two-and-two together and realize it was the same actor in all those roles. So just recently have I looked at some of his other work ... Angels in America, Barry Munday, Little Children, Passengers and some other really good stuff. But, it is the couple of clips of Full Monty and Oklahoma! that have me wanting to see him in a musical. Just wondering if I'm too late ...
For me, and I am a big fan, A-Team is his weakest role. He just seemed to have been trying too hard to be an action-movie villian. A big part of that was the writing, like when he watches the barn thing blow up and says it looks just like Call of Duty.

Patrick will probably become another Kevin Bacon, the actor who always contributes solid performances but never hits mega-stardom.
We would love it too!
A fan asked him about it on Twitter and here is his response:

@Mays1322"I was trying to work it out...but there are too many conflicts. I'll keep trying for another time!"

So at least he is trying to get back to Broadway. And since he refers to "conflicts," he must have some other projects in the works. That is good for him. Here are clips from Full Monty (no not that clip) and Oklahoma! that I enjoy:

I hope so I am a BIG fan.
Gypsy--why am I not surprised you didn't see the Phantom movie? Though I am a bit more surprised you never saw Angels in America.
(But I'm even more surprised he was in A-Team, not that it makes me want to see it more...)
He must have been around 25 when I saw him in the Carousel tour in 1996. For me the age worked--I think, especially given the fact that Carousel is set in the late 19th century (don't quote me on that, but I always assumed it was around the 1880s), having a mid 20s Billy makes sense, age wise, even if he often seems to be played older. I thought he was great, though judging from the cast album and video clips, Hayden probably acted the role better--he seems hard to beat, and my memories are pretty hazy.
He did play the role, perhaps, with more of a sense of doom, or an acceptance that his life would end badly, from the start anyway, which I suppose plays into what others have said about the way Patrick often plays roles. Which is why I was curious how he played Curly on Broadway, a role that really doesn't have that element at all, so it's interesting to see that Letterman clip of the Broadway cast. He does seem to play it with slightly less full on swagger than, say, Hugh.
(Speaking of Full Monty one of Patrick's "go to" stories every time he's on a talk show is about the time that apparently the lighting cue for the strip number was mishandled and his future wife, in the audience, did get to see the full monty).

I've listened to that story a couple times. Never heard that his future wife was in the audience ... just a young girl who he locked eyes with during the unfortunate lighting cue.
Full Monty Lighting Cue
It wasn't Dag in the audience in The Full Monty. That was 2001. Dag was born in 1976. She would have been 25. Patrick met her in 1994 at CMU. He graduated in 1995 and she graduated in 1998. They met up again a few years later and were married in 2005.
When he tells the story it is about locking eyes with a girl he pegged to be about 11 years old when she got that eyeful.
Just wanted to clarify.
But...I guess it makes a fun story told the other way...
I stand corrected. I swear I heard that story involving *someone* in the Full Monty and a woman he ended up engaged to on some trashy interview show like The Talk very recently... Carry on.
So... umm... has a video ever surfaced of that night's performance?

I've searched high and low for that performance

Most of these are my videos. I posted them on youtube during my Patrick Wilson phase. It cracks me up how many views they've gotten over the last 6 years!
EricMontreal22: You are partly right about PHANTOM OF THE OPERA--I have never seen the Broadway production and never plan to. But I did see the film by chance, but I actually don't remember Patrick Wilson--I am getting old. You are right also about ANGELS IN AMERICA--I am kicking myself for not seeing that on Broadway. I really should get ahold of the film directed by the great Mike Nichols. Yes, Michael Hayden's acting was first rate in CAROUSEL, but Patrick Wilson has the better singing voice. I also wish I had seen him in OKLAHOMA! Believe it or not I have never seen a stage productions of that landmark musical, seeing only the 1950's film with a good Gordon Macrea(Sp.?).
I found him incredibly charming in TFM.
I came across a recording of him in Romeo and Juliet by Terrence Mann.

...and can you share? either the recording or your thoughts about it.
It's been a LONG time since I listened to it, but it was mostly imitations of "Rock Music" with Shakespeare's script being used as lyrics. Patrick was Romeo and he sang pretty well from what I remember.
THE HAPPY TIME or SEESAW with Leslie Kritzer, please.
If that's his absolutely perfect ass in the nude scene in ANGELS, kudos to Mr. Wilson. If its a stunt butt, could I have a face pic and perhaps a phone number?

I've done careful perusal of said butt in 'Angels in America', 'The Full Monty' (youtube videos), and 'Little Children' and I've come to the conclusion that it isn't a butt double. Amazingly, that face and voice goes with that butt. Somewhere I remember reading Mr. Wilson joking about the idea of somebody having a butt double. I've also read Mr. Wilson hoping he'd never have to get naked again for a role. Too bad.

Well, there is that one clip on yt from the full monty finale were you can see all of Patrick fairly well. If he never gets naked again at least there's that.
