According to an article on msn.com, we won't be getting it any time soon, if at all.
Cruz just signed up to do a new movie with Almodovar.
Cruz expected to begin shooting the Rob Marshall movie adaptation of the musical "Nine," but when that project fell apart it freed her up to give some "Hugs."

Oh, I started getting a nervous a while ago. This just started getting me sad
Hopefully not.
I never really expected this to happen and I was sort of dreading the critical and audience reaction to it...
NINE is gorgeous. I hope this hasn't fallen through.
There does not seem to be any end in sight for the writer's strike, if i was Cruz and had the time to do another movie that was ready to roll, i would as well.
As for Nine, i think it will still get made. At least there one shinning spot CZJ is no longer in it!
Maybe Javier Bardem will drop and they'll have to get Antonio :P
With Javier being a very plausible Oscar-winner this year for his turn in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, they will definitely make sure he remains with the movie. Honestly, I would love to see Banderas reprise his role but Bardem would make a brilliant Guido and I'm certainly thrilled that he was cast. Depp would have been a fabulous choice too...
According to someone on imdb.com the film was always slated to be released in '09, then was fast-tracked to the Dec./Oscar bait release in '08, and now they're going for the original '09 plan. I just hope the movie actually goes into production at all.
Who needs Catherine Z. Jones when you have Bardem surrounded by Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, and possibly Amy Adams or Annie Hathaway or who knows who else. This movie MUST be made.

Good News! This movie is still happening. The producer(s) is too dedicated to this film to let it fall through the crack.
I think it's still happening. But the strike, mixed with coordinating schedules will push it out a year.
NINE is gorgeous. I hope this hasn't fallen through.
The stage musical may be gorgeous, but you haven't seen the film.
Plenty of stage musicals that have been described as "gorgeous" have then been labeled "horrendous" upon its regurgitation to film.

Neither have you. Every musical I thought would work well on film has done well. The ones I didn't think would work...didn't. I think NINE will work fabulously.
I could see Nine working exceptionally well on film, especially with all of the talent attached. I really hope it doesn't completely fall through.
I was disappointed that Antonio was passed over for Guido, but after being highly impressed by Bardem this season, I think that he'd be absolutely perfect. Excellent casting. Hopefully he'll stay with the film if it happens.

They are actually using this time during the strike to work out the kinks and figure everything else. So, I guess this strike has been a good thing for this movie since they are now actually taking their time with the film instead of rushing it.
Who is replacing Catharine? My picks are Amy Adams and Anne Hathaway. If Penelope stops, I would love Emily Blunt in that role.
Emily Blunt would make a great Stephanie Necrophorus, actually. I don't see her as any of the main female roles. She's a fantastic actress but I don't think she has the overt sexiness of Carla, the ethereal quality of Claudia, the abandoned beauty of Luisa, or the grotesqueness of Saraghina, and she's too young for LeFleur.
I think Amy Adams is a bit too apple pie to be in this film, though she may make a good Claudia.
I agree about Amy Adams, but I think she may be able to go really crazy with Carla. I would love to see what she'd do.
Reading this thread reminded me of why I don't really come here anymore...
I was saying Adams as Claudia and Blunt as Carla. Did you see her in DAN IN REAL LIFE? Oozing sex appeal.
I say it'll never sees the light of day. If it does, it better be beautiful to look at because it it doesn't have one decent or recognizable song going for it. I saw the revival and it's one boring song after another and everyone I was with thought so too. That's why it's not a poular show. And please don't start rattling off this "great " or "amazing" song you have burned into your memory from listening to the OBC for thirty years, I've heard them.
Coochie coochie coochie coo...
I've got a plan for what I'm gonna do to you
So hot!
You're gonna steam and scream
And vibrate like a string I'm plucking.
Kiss your fevered little brow,
Pinch your cheeks till you say "ow".
And I can hardly wait to show you how
Guido
Who won't care if you come to me tired and over-worked?
I won't, bambino!
Who know's a therapy to beat what you can get from me?
I don't!
But this will have to be enough for now.
Guido...
Ciao.
I love you, Guido.

Sorry, guys. It's time you musical fans learned the harsh truth we comic book fans have known for years. You can have a director, a cast, a script, and a release date, but NEVER assume it's coming out until they actually start filming.
Okay, if you think Jane Krakowski singing those fantastic lyrics Ljay posted to the great music coming from ceiling swinging on a bed sheet is boring...your whole argument has no credibility.

I bet Zeta-Jones dropping out had something to do with it, she being the biggest name attached originally.
