I think Patti deserves it hands down, even more so than for Sweeney Todd or Anything Goes. Having said that . . . .
In 1960, everyone was assuming that it was Ethel Merman's for the taking (including me). It was a travesty when Mary Martin got it for Sound of Music (I still smart over it). But that's what happened, like it or not.
SOOOO, it's not totally out of the question for Kelli to get the award. I found her performance totally adequate, professionsl, etc., etc., but there wasn't the genius in it (which Mary Martin DID have in SP) that Patti puts into Momma Rose.
But I'm keeping the fingers crossed for Patti.
