What's your guess? I'm thinking it could close around its 5th anniversary in March. Pretty crazy considering all the hoopla when the show first opened - everyone thought it would run for decades!
Very strong possibilty - IMO

Actually, come to think of it, that is a strong possibility.

When will the film version (musical) come to DVD? The film has been gone from movie theatres in San Francisco for several weeks now. Isn't it time for the DVD?
Especially after the movie tanked so badly
With killer reviews like The Producers got, it should have run forever. POTO got mixed reviews & you know the rest. Was it the show, the hype, the music or what ?
Wonder if Young Frankenstein will now be delayed ? I hope not

Its weird that somany shows that get mixed revies run longer than those with good reviews. I think that onething is its appeal to a certin audience.
Did not see the movie .
Hopefully, the DVD will have King of Broadway edited back in instead of as an extra or deleted scene?
The movie was almost a sure thing like the Offspring of Seabiscuit going into the derby & getting beat by a swayback horse ready for the glue factory. It really bombed when it should not have . A rather large mystery
Well, the PRODUCERS was only a real sell out hit when Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane were in it. It didn't do particularly well on the road and has been underselling on Bway for the last couple of years. It's just not a very tourist friendly show at the end of the day - its humour is very New York, very Jewish, very showbiz and that doesn't translate all that well to non English speaking audiences.
With the dvd of the film preserving Lane and Broderick's performances, I would think ticket sales would only further decline on Broadway.
The Toronto company flopped as well.
I think the St. James will have an opening!

So, let's say this really happened. What do you guys think would go into the St. James? Sorry to be so....pessimistic, but I'm just wondering what you guys think about this...
It's a popular show on wkends, but weekdays are terrible. I think it's past it's time, and really just relying on reputation. I know very few repeat visitors, except maybe to see fave actors.
I was never a fan of the show. I'd love to see a new show roll on in.
Well back what with FosseBoi said, if you really think about it so many bad shows stay longer because the public likes them. I mean if you think about it the movie "King Kong" has been in theaters since Xmas and when I saw it, it was one of the worst films I have ever seen. But america love's their action movies with all the special effects combined with some A-Listers. It's the same application to shows.
I'm still trying to decide if I should even see it. For some reason it doesn't appeal to me that much, and I never got into the cast recording when I bought it years ago. As other shows open, it always gets pushed further down on my list of shows to see. Maybe I'll give it a try before it closes, though.
I was actually watching an old "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and it was about opening night with Larry David and David Schwimmer. If you ever saw that episode it made the muscial look fabulous and funny but from what I have read at the official site and reviews it doesn't seem as appealing as the two play it in the HBO series.

Everything is becoming family oriented. "The Producers" is NOT exactly family oriented.lol! I do hope to see it before it closes.
Okay, winter is always a slow month for Broadway shows...and, the Producers still pulled in about $600,000 last week...it shouldn't close soon things will pick back up...
I dunno...I think after the movie tanked at the box office it was all downhill after that...but it could be a different situation for the show though...no one's been talking about it lately....it may be due to fall off the map sometime soon...
Though I won't deny the show got good reviews, if you look over those reviews, mostly they praised the excellent cast that opened the show. It was the cast that made the show so strong, and when you lose that you lost a big piece of the show. The music is fun, but not astounding, and the story entirely depends on its characters. I think this is confirmed by the failure of the show in Toronto and other areas. The cast is what counted, and now that a stupendous cast isn't in it, it will have a hard time staying alive.
I bet it closes in the summer or early fall.
They've made back their investment, haven't they? I am a strong believer in bringing Broadway back to the golden age when shows didn't usually run much longer than a few years. They would get their money back, make a little, and then close the show. I think there's only room for a few decade-plus shows. I would love The Producers to close while they're still running remotely strong, rather than trying to stay alive past their due-date.
I recently saw the show for the first time last week. Hunter Foster and John Treacy Egan (who I think recently took over the role) are both excellent. The show is fresh and I think the show was almost sold out. I don't think it's going to close soon
If there's a God, it will close.
I give it to the 2007-2008 season. I can see them getting some big names in the musical to boost up ticket sales.
