Is this DVD still happening? I missed in the theaters, and I really want to see Patti's Joanne again.
Any word?

I was hoping it would have been available by Christmas, but no such luck.
I can't imagine they wouldn't release it

Posted: 10/27/11 at 3:53pmSince the satellite died 20 minutes before the end at my showing, I'd at least like to rent it.

This is depressing. Now I'm really kicking myself for not seeing it in the movie theaters.

Posted: 11/4/11 at 4:35pmUgh! I hope it returns to movie theatres so I have a chance to see it. I had to miss it the first time because I was in DC seeing Follies over all the days it was showing in my area.

Posted: 11/4/11 at 4:49pmWha? Are there money issues? I thought this was a shoe-in for release. Makes me more glad I saw it in theatre--I almost didn't go.

Posted: 11/4/11 at 5:25pmWtf. I would see it in cinemas if they came to Australia. I refuse to believe that this won't eventually end up on DVD.

*Shakes fist at NY Philharmonic*
I didn't see it in the theaters, because I thought a cast with NPH, Colbert, Christina Hendricks, not to mention Patti LuPone was sure to have a DVD release.

Posted: 11/7/11 at 10:32amThis is crazy! It's certainly more marketable than any other Sondheim DVD release. I mean, look at the cast and the relatively good profit it turned when it hit theaters. Sure, it wasn't Avatar, but what were they expecting with higher ticket prices and fewer showtimes? It was pretty well received and did quite well all things considered. Just release the damn thing, people!

I'm gutted that they don't plan to release this. It's CRAZY not to at least show it once on PBS? Or print a small number of DVDs and see how they sell?

Is it possible they are airing extra dates in November and don't want ticket buyers to wait for a DVD? So they figure they can announce a DVD after the airings finally end.
(If this is a stupid question, feel free to say so. I don't know anything about how DVDs are marketed.)

Posted: 11/7/11 at 5:37pmI think that's a very good point actually. Not announcing a DVD release would further heighten interest in future broadcasts.
