Will there be a Bright star tour

The world is full of producers who promise they'll be launching a tour. It's a much smaller population of those that actually do it, let alone waiting more than a year and a half after it closed on Broadway to start. They could surprise me but I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

Stating it at a widely broadcasted event seems to give it more of an edge of happening than what most producers do.

Which would be stating it in a widely circulated closing notice which EVERYONE sees. Yup, that makes sense.
Who knows, Martin may just not let this thing die but I think he's too smart a guy to ignore the fact there's not nearly enough interest to sustain a tour. And if he was going to do it, why wait until 2018? And for the record, I saw it and enjoyed it so I'm not rooting against it but I also don't believe everything I'm told.

I wouldn't call the concert "widely broadcasted"....When I started watching, they only had like 2 thousand viewers. Really hoping it's true, though.

Something Rotten waited 18 months.
Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder (who has the same producer) waited 2 full years.
Aladdin is waiting 3 years to launch their tour.
There are many reasons why they could be waiting until January 2018 (which still actually follows the standard pattern of season 1 - open, season 2 - wait, season 3 - tour). It's not necessarily Martin deciding if it tours. There are many other key players in that decision.
Now all that being said, I'm not sure if blithely mentioning it during a Q & A portion of a live broadcast was the way they intended to announce it, but nonetheless.

I too really hope this tour happens. So many announce, but never materialize. I will say that announcing at a public event and along with that, already knowing the first city is enough to give me a bit more hope than if this had just been another press release. I will say that Bridges closed in May 2014 and the tour didn't start until late November 2015. Who ever thought that tour would actually happen?

Huh?
Something Rotten is closing January 1 and the tour is launching 9 days later, January 10.
Gentleman's Guide closed this past January and the national tour had already launched the previous September.
Aladdin is still running and the tour starts this coming spring.
I'm talking about how long the show will have been closed on Broadway till when the tour launches, not how long it will have been since the show first opened which is irrelevant to this discussion. It's much harder to generate some buzz about a show that closed 18 months ago than a show that just closed 9 days ago or is still running on Broadway. Also, the 3 examples you cite were shows that found an audience running anywhere from almost 2 years to more than 3 years, not a show that barely squeaked out 3 months after opening. Big difference and ridiculous to compare that to shows that ran so much longer. Bridges of Madison County is probably one of the few valid comparisons with a tour starting 18 months after a brief run on Broadway ended. And I could be wrong but I recall hearing that the tour did not do very well at all. And Bridges was based on a best selling book and a hit movie that everyone's heard of. People who didn't know the Broadway production might have gone to see it just based on loving the movie. Bright Star has none of that going for it.
Again, I hope I'm wrong cause I liked the show but letting a show that objectively speaking failed on Broadway sit dormant for more than a year and a half before launching a tour is a curious decision at best and doesn't give me a high level of confidence it will actually happen.

I see your point. I was going by opening, not closing. If I remember correctly, Broadway Across America was a partner at some point with the show (which isn't unusual - they are on Dear Evan Hansen as well), which could definitely be playing a factor in them touring.

Something Rotten, Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, and Aladdin were/are all hits. Bright Star was a mega-flop that lost every penny of investment (and then some). The shows just can't be compared.
Announcing a tour for 2018 of a flop that closed in 2016 is mere desperate wishful thinking. That said, it's not impossible; there are many towns that need C/D-grade filler for their Broadway series. But were the show to tour, it would always be the "poor relation" on the bill, and producers/investors would probably not see significant return for their dollars.

I will say that if Bright Star does end up touring, a thing that could help it commercially is that there will be people wanting to get season tickets to their performing arts centers in order to guarantee themselves tickets to the Hamilton tour.

Well, assuming that the markets that get Hamilton need an unpopular filler for their season. There might be some, but the biggest towns don't often need desperation tours.

Couldn’t find a more recent thread on this topic, but some new cast members include Liana Hunt, Mary Page Nance, Henry Gottfried, Cody Davis and John Leslie Wolfe. Have no clue who exactly each of them is replacing, but it’s all listed in this instagram post. https://instagram.com/p/BegNwXhngHl/

Mary Page Nance sure look a lot like C Cusack, she may be the next Alice Murphy. Or perhaps Alison Briner is being moved from the ensemble to the role of A Murphy, and Nance is taking over her track. Liana Hunt is really good, maybe she's taking over the role of Lucy or Margo. I heard that the "Sun is going to shine again" song was changed for the tour, I heard only Alice Murphy sings it now; the other company members don't sing portions of the song as well like they did on Broadway. that's just what I heard; I'm not sure why Martin/Brickell would've changed it for the tour.
