Hopefully the producers won't be planning a Bring Your Daughter to Work Day.

I am taking my 15 year old niece to see it! She's such a Broadway buff. Does anyone know: Does Barbour sign afterwards? I know she'd do anything to meet him!
I have a feeling this is a moot question.
We shall see.
If not the question will be,
"Would you cross a picket line of anti-sex offenders to see
A TALE OF TWO CITIES?
I know he escaped the sex offender moniker, but tell that to the protestors.

Well that should be interesting, and I did meet him after Jayne Eyre so he does sign. And I'm sure you would catch him after an evening show.
There is nothing wrong with making any sort of speculations at all.
And, I don't think that this is going to get picketed at all. I think that it won't get any further then it has already. His name was in the papers and I don't think it is going to be in them again.
Broadway isn't Hollywood. If this were a movie star we were talking about then he would have been analyzed every which way possible. Having several different media outlets going into every little detail of the story.
But, being that this is Broadway we are talking about and not Hollywood I don't think that this is going to get that much notice. I don't think that general public pays that much attention to who is in what show. Yes, they might have heard that there is a Broadway actor who did the things that Barbour did. But, they might not realize what show he is in.

Rentfan you seem to have some inside info on DB- I hear he's most encouraging to young fans! can you suggest any way to make sure she meets him? She's so excited I'd hate for her to blow her chance.
It's an interesting question. I was watching the Camelot concert and when he was performing, it crossed my mind for about 5 seconds, but that was it. Lots of performers have shady pasts (I am certainly not infallible) and I think Barbour was remorseful and paid for his crime. Perhaps we can allow him to move on.

There's a very strong rumor that Loretta Swit has been approached to take over the role of Mme de Farge. That's the only reason I'll be seeing this production.

I hope you're kidding. I have nothing against Loretta Switt but Natalie Toro simply owned that role in the Sarasota tryout.

Id say just try to attend and evening performance because if I remember he usually signs after them.

Eris, I have the information from Miss Swit herself. She's been preparing for her return to Broadway for some time now. She thought it would be in MAMMA MIA, but this will give her a chance to ORIGINATE a role and perhaps become eligible for a Tony (which she'll surely win!)
Hmmmm. Like I said...I have nothing against her and have grown up watching her. I enjoy her as an actress and I'm sure she'd be great in the role. I'm just a little disappointed because this was a star-making role for Ms. Toro.
The role Mme de Farge rises to become the star of the show and I'm sure Ms. Swit could definitely gain positive attention in the role.
Swit will be taking over the role of...
Then I will be picketing.
Don't be sure Winston. Political groups love to find a place to push their cause and this is a good one and would get even more press.

I could see Barbour being the subject of picketing/protests for his involvement in the Church of Scientology, especially given the growth and regularlity of anti-Scientology demonstrations by Anonymous in the past few months. That's one way to draw negative attention to the production.
I knew this thread would be about Barbour.
I think he is talented, and I would see the show. That doesn't mean I condone the crime he was found guilty of. I'm sure there are other people on every productions that have done things I wouldn't approve of.
I saw him in Camelot twice, and I thought he was wonderful Lancelot. I'm sure he would do a great job in the show.
Speaking of Camelot, who was he in the Camelot concert?
"I hear he's most encouraging to young fans!"
Are you joking?

Look, I'm not arguing that no one should go see it. Go and have a wonderful time. I probably would, too, if there hadn't been young girls involved. As I said, that puts it on a whole other level for me. I'm not arguing that he shouldn't be forgiven. I hope he is sorry for what he's done and is able to find forgiveness. I just don't happen to feel like seeing him in a Broadway play, that's all, especially one where he has to interact with a little girl.

Where do I start...?
Mister Matt could not have said it better.
Winston, extending the speculation, is beyond interesting by now, really. Let's just WAIT.
JoeKv99, I hope your post was real and not ironic in some way. If it was real, the choice of words really killed it.
MCfan2, I thought we had stopped beating this subject to a pulp...? Let's concentrate on THE PLAY, the play IS the thing!
Pleeeze!!!
Eris, I totally agree that Toro should be the one to play Mme De Farge. I also love Loretta Switt, but can't even begin to conceptualize her in this role =I

I'm sure I am not the only one not to know what crime this person committed?
My friend Google will be able to help you.
Speaking of Camelot, who was he in the Camelot concert?
He wasn't in the concert. He was in the national tour. He played Lancelot.

Totally. I'm perfectly capable of separating out the actor from the performance, otherwise I wouldn't enjoy 'The Thick Of It' half as much. ^_^
I admire James Barbour for his immense acting and singing talent and he is of interest to me only in that capacity and that is the only capacity of which I have any right to judge him. I couldn’t care less about his private life, his religious affiliations or his personal transgressions.
The only question I have for the hypocrites out there who would boycott a show in which Barbour is performing is what kind of miserable excuse for parents would allow their teenage daughter to have an unchaperoned meeting on two occasions with a man twice her age, no matter how famous he is? Even if the answer to that question was addressed in the press, which it was not, it would not effect my decision to patronize any production featuring Barbour. His talent is what audiences should come to see and hear, not his personal life and it is that great talent for which he will enjoy continued and deserved success. And that is the way it should be.
The only way I would go see this show is if it were stunt cast with R. Kelly.

LePetiteFromage...what a GREAT CONCEPT...! You do come up with some classics! If I was an agent, I would book you
monestere, once more, I totally agree with your words. Mr. Barbour is a rare talent, and a self made performer, at that. I don't think ANYONE has ever given him the credit he deserves, perhaps because he just has worked at his craft, for the love of it, and is so matter of fact about it.
This incident (jackson992, there is more on this one than just the headlines in "Google", trust me, just like monestere indicated, and rightly so), was just an unfortunate mishap in this performer's life. He has shown through the years that he is consciencious, dedicated to his work, and a gentleman (yes, a gentleman, if not, we would have heard much worse about all this), and the fact that it all can go down the drain for him just like that, because someone might have unclear reasons for doing this to him, is REALLY unfortunate and sad.
Let's get past this, once and for all...I think there have been enough discussions already to show enough evidence that what I am saying is true, and not off the point at all.
ATOTC is a wonderful piece of work, which we should actually be VERY glad that someone like Jill Santoriello has taken the time to pursue making it a reality through many years of hard work, and that these producers have also given their time, and love, to this material, to bring it to all of us.
Let's accentuate the positive, and leave this matter to something that happenned between two people, that has already been resolved in the courts, for better or worse (I say worse for JB, inspite of what has been said).
Break a leg, ATOTC AND James Barbour :)
