KChenowethfan...Thanx for the links...so interesting reading all the reviews. I never saw London but am familiar with the recording...I agree...I love the song "Loose Ends". I would have loved to have seen it in the show during previews to see if it worked.
Anyway all...FYI there are only some tickets left for the first two weeks in July...I just got tickets to go again...if you haven't seen the show GO!! It is a fabulously fun evening!! You will laugh your ass off!

Okay so I saw the show today.

The opening was a little choppy. I loved Eastwick Knows and thought it set up the show a little better but the new Daryl Van Horne song is really great.

Absolutely love Emily Skinner. She is so amazing. And is she really getting heavy or was that just padding.. cause it looked like it was a little bit 'o the padding.

Adored Christine Noll when she did Jekyll and Hyde years ago and she just gets better with age. Loved her.

And the suprise was Piro... On an asside, is she battling cancer or something? She came out to sign for us and she had a bandana on and painted eyebrows. I am not complaining I just wanted to know so I could send out good vibes for a healthy recovery and I was too nervous to ask. But she is so funny. she talked with me for like 5 minutes.

I loved the one who played Felicia. Some poster said she is too old for a teenage daughter. She is probably only in her fifties... When did that too old for a high school student? She could have been in her 40s when she had her daughter.

I have to say that i was upset that one reviewer here in town bitched about seeing the wires during, I wish I may... You KNOW that is what they are going to do is fly... It was still lots of fun when they did. and then they flew over our heads. that was cool too!

None of the four of us are actors or anything (okay I am a drag queen too... but that does not count) but we all thought it would be excellent on Broadway.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Its a huge shame they dropped Eastwick Knows as it really set up the show well.

The song set the show up against a real small town american backdrop so you got the idea what kind of place it was.

Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

I thought the same thing when I saw her in NEVERMORE at Signature...Piro has alopecia, a disease where one's body thinks the hair follicles are a foreign tissue attacking the body, thus suppressing the growth of hair.

It appears like she embraces it because her hair design in NEVERMORE was half wig and the other half exposed her bald head.

Seriously, why does almost every review of Emily have to bring up her size? I rarely see this with any other performer.

Concentrate on her performance....geez.

KChenowethfan, I know that I had a similar reaction the first time I saw pictures of her in the show. It wasn't, "Oh, she gained weight...her performance will suffer, I must obsess on it," but I just have this vision of her in my head from "Sideshow" and it was a slight shock.

Her performance was fantastic though. What I loved about all three of them is that they never tried to pull focus from each other and really seemed like they were friends.

KChenowethfan...I agree! Emily is awsome no matter what size she is.
For you "Loose Ends" fans...I just found Piro has a myspace page with a Loose Ends recording...I think it is from the original reading and demo she did. You can down load the song. I don't know if she runs the page...Christiane's myspace declares it is NOT her...but has some great songs as well.

Thanks for the link Minnely. I like her rendition of "Loose Ends" actually.

I found an interview with the witches and another one with Kudisch, which includes a few snippets of "Another Night at Darryl's" and a snippet of "Darryl Van Horne at: http://dctheatrereviews.com/review/2007/06/24/witches-emily-jacqueline-and-christiane/

and

The interviewer annoys me, but they are good interviews.

I found this article on Jacquelyn Piro's Alopecia. They did a story on her during THE ARK. Its pretty interesting. Facinating woman.

KChenowethfan, thanks for those interviews. It makes me appreciate and love this cast even more than I thought possibly. Very intelligent answers and they are all so much fun.

itsahopi, thank you for that link. Jacquelyn is such an amazing woman.

There is a new interview of sorts with Mark in the Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/28/AR2007062800747.html

So "Loose Ends" popped up on my iPod today...and it got me thinking again...Why...WHY did they cut this song?

I feel like the show needs MORE moments like that in it. If they are cutting it because they feel it is unfair that one witch sings more than another, isn't that sort of a community theatre decision?

There are many people out there who have lost a parent, and for the powers that be to remove this song from the show, they are denying those audience members a truly beautiful moment.

I have the same feeling about Loose Ends. It's really a beautiful song but I didn't really miss it when I saw the show. It's only after, when I'm listening to the London cast recording, that I wonder why they cut it.

And thanks for that interview, KChenowethfan. I'm always interested in Marc's interviews since he has such a sense of who his characters are. It's wonderful to actually see an actor take into account who is character is, beyond what is written in the script.

I think they should have kept "Another Night at Darryl's" as a solo for Alex. It's my favorite song in the show and I think it worked better that way. I think there was a reprise sung by the three witches in London that was added during the run or just not included on the cast recording. They should have kept Sukie's "Loose Ends" in then and left "Another Night at Darryl's" as Alex's big number.

I agree. I liked it better when Alex had the entire number...then the three of them had that really nice reprise....Sukie had "Loose Ends" and Jane did not have a second solo number....but it did not matter, because Joanna Riding got the Olivier nomination...Sometimes it isn't about WHO has more to do, but what tells the story better...and I still think the writers are selling their material short by hacking away at it.

I think cutting "Loose Ends" probably had fundamentally more to do with keeping the action moving, than giving equal singing/spotlight time to each witch- though that might have been one factor. I still miss it though. I heard Jacquelyn Piro Donovan's rendition on her myspace page and it is really nicely done and heartfelt. I wish she had a chance to sing in that style in the show.

I actually liked all the witches singing "Another Night at Darryl's." The story as it goes on is not about them as individuals, but all of them as "conquests" of the devil. They are all tied to Darryl so this was a good way of showing their common views toward the situation.

In the London version, Jane was the only one of the three to sing in "The Wedding" although it's not a true solo number like "Loose Ends" or "Another Night at Darryl's."

You're right! I think she headed up the entire vodoo sequence...Because in London she was the witch who had the pregnancy scare with Darryl....At least the night I saw it...

My favorite song from the show is "Loose Ends", and I find it a shame that it was cut.

I think it's the only number that brings the audience out of the supernatural and into the common human experience, and it fleshes out Sukie and Jennifer's characters a bit more. If Jacquie had the chance, she would have kept the tempo up and made it the torch song that it's meant to be, and I don't think anyone would have cared if it stopped the action, that's what torch songs do, they stop the show, and there wouldn't have been a dry eye in the house.

Every night that I hear it (although I love the actors signing it) I wonder why "Something" is still in the show.

I agree with you on "Loose Ends."

Yeah, "Something" really does not add anything to the show or move it along either. Yet, I do like Erin Driscoll so it gave her a chance to sing.

I couldn't agree more ... wish Loose Ends was in the show...don't like "Something"...do like hearing Erin Driscoll sing it...WANT IT TO GO TO NYC!!! But, they must keep all four principals...their chemistry is amazing...I go back for my final time next week.
