Exquisite work being done at MCC every night. The staging here is the #1 star — theater with a capital T and you cannot experience it in another medium. The stage is left littered with flipped tables, balloons, fallen lights, cotton balls, and a couch that I’m sure requires a short story’s length of notes for its blocking alone. It all feels so natural and raw, despite the fantastical nature of the staging. While this play deals with a rather dark and insane subject matter (that was really happening in the early 2010s as I learned), it manages to never feel scary, by design. The puppet is so sweet. The performances are so great.
Just so smart. I’ll be thinking about it for a while. Can’t recommend it enough.
