Operation Mincemeat vs Maybe Happy Ending - Race for Best Musical

Feb 16, 2025 — 10:55:49 AM

Musigamist said: "Dead Outlaw is the wild card here I think—it's an original American musical, which MHE and Mincemeat are not, with an acclaimed off-Broadway run, and an award-winning creative team."This is the last shoe to drop for best musical in my mind. If voters follow historical patterns then MHE will win as it "needs" the tony bump more than Mincemeat to tour and continue on. But, Dead Outlaw could usurp it and is probably more relatable for the American tour audience.

Liberation at Roundabout question

Jan 28, 2025 — 10:18:50 PM

Their website says there is nudity in the show so I presume that is the reason. Most shows with nudity lock up phones to protect actors. Someone always seems to sneak a picture or video and post it but I imagine it would be waaaaaay worse without the lockups.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/24/24

A nice average ticket price bump for MHE. The trajectory of the past two weeks are promising after a paltry and flat first four.LFG MHE!

MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Reviews

This robot love story was one of the most human things I’ve seen on Broadway. That’s the cliché line, but it’s true. I’m going to skip reviewing the details of the show, with one exception later, and just cover its impact. I love theater because how of much a live show can make me feel. Many great shows have done that, and probably more deeply than this show, but what I felt was so different with this one.It can be helpful to process things through stories and develop new pathways of empathy....

THE COUNTER at Roundabout

Oct 3, 2024 — 10:00:02 AM

Agreed about the seating. I was fourth row center and that was good for faces, but the stage is SO high that I was glad to be done quickly. Sitting further back, skewing to the right is probably best. The folks on the left of me probably missed half the show by being blocked and so low. The show was a nice, brief, reflective bit of life. But the staging and set design is perplexing.

Rachel Zegler & Kit Connor-led ROMEO + JULIET Previews

OUR TOWN Previews

Melissa25 said: "Tom-497: ...so I'd just mention that the current Cromer-directed "The Counter" arguably takes a single line from George in Our Town (about friends telling each other what they need to be told) and turns it into the basis of an entire play (with several other similarities to Our Town). And, to my taste, The Counter is a much more successful, and moving, production.Oh good. So glad to hear this since I have tickets for Tuesday and I am looking forward to it." I'll be there toni...

Rachel Zegler & Kit Connor-led ROMEO + JULIET Previews

Some seating observations: I was in D122. It's on the top left aisle in the Telecharge seating chart. Seats in rows D, E, F, and G on that aisle had Kit and Rachel not only walk by but stand for a bit during different scenes. There was a lot of swooning in our area. Seat FA2: During the balcony scene Kit asked to borrow it (it's not bolted down) and took it to stand on. Middle aisle 400 seats (401/402) in rows A-D get the closest view of Rachel's song and action on that mini-stage by the DJ. ...

Scherzinger in SUNSET BLVD. Previews

Rachel Zegler & Kit Connor-led ROMEO + JULIET Previews

Welcome to Circle in the Square High School's production of Romeo & Juliet. From the bulk of the audience to the execution of the show, it was all very juvenile. It felt like a high school production from anytown, USA with no budget for a director so the students just took it upon themselves. Everyone who volunteered enjoys drama, but will never do a show after graduation. Except, for that one kid who can REALLY act. The handsome popular boy, of course plays Romeo, much to the squealing delig...

Scherzinger in SUNSET BLVD. Previews

shomeika said: "Why does the stage look so tiny? I keep looking at this over and over, and know it's not small, but..." There is scaffolding with lights and fog machines in the wings that encroach onto the stage, shrinking the width. It's a deep stage at times, but when the screen comes down and tilts toward the audience it shrinks a LOT. This helps as there are no sets or props at all beyond a chair here and there.

shomeika said: "For anyone who has actually seen the Broadway previews, does this version take place in more "current" times? The visual/camera work and "all black" costuming looks modern, contemporary andsharp. I am just curious if this takes place in the age of "social media", as it has that visual look to it. I mean if the cast is going outside to a "modern" Times Square, it sort of would seem out of place in the original 1950's? Tickets bought for it and "Redwood". Yay!" It opens by stati...

You should be fine seeing things. The screen may be a little warped, people have said when it tilts that heads look disproportioned. Being closer would be worth it to see facial expressions in my mind. I was mid-mezz and just far enough back that I wish I had been able to see all the nuance up close....

SUNSET BLVD to transfer to Broadway

Sep 28, 2024 — 11:48:54 PM

This was a horror show. Like Psycho is a horror show. It was so captivating. So many elements of this are things I don't like: minimal design, gimmicky camera tricks, non-theater celebs being pushed on Broadway, a singular performer/performance being the highlight, the horror genre as a whole, ALW in general. I don't know how I liked it, but I loved it! The whole thing exuded power and drama. I've never been to a Jaime Lloyd show but knew what to expect. I was nervous about it. But all of the...
