Women Belters

Women Belters#0

Posted: 5/11/05 at 5:12pm

I am a HUGE fan of women belters! I mean top of the lungs, make the rafters shake belting! Anyone know of great musical woman belting songs? Something like Eden in Once Upon a Time or Cady Huffman in When You Got It, Flaunt it!

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

The Last 5 Years has Sherie Belting quite a bit..well maybe it's just her ability to hit high notes w/ ease..I like listening to her..

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

Kerry Butler. She sings with ease that I can only envy.

And Stephanie J. Block, I guess that was included in "all the Elphabas", but I just wanted to give her special mention.

I have not seen anyone more talented in my life than Strephanie J. Block and Sutton. I need to see Jenna as Elphaba and I'm sure she will be added to that list :)

I heard Jenna doind Defying Gravity, and from what I heard...she's on the list.

I have a recording of DG by Jenna..and I saw her as Nessa...she is the best! I put her at the top with...someday she will be next to Stephanie and Sutton on my list...right now she's just right under!

It could be that you just don't like her voice..it happens..but I find it puzzling :)
