The Post is utter trash. This is SO off-topic, but how many homophobic, discriminatory political, editorial cartoons have you seen in the NY Times? The Post is nothing but Fox News with a little National Enquirer mixed in. Presenting right-wing propoganda as news items...sorry...again, SO Off-Topic, but I had to say it.
And...I don't think this is a NY Times mistake. The ad doesn't even get designed by the Times, they just print ads that people give them and pay for.

Posted: 8/21/04 at 12:50pmDawg you said that Telecharge may not have updated their records, but on the Telecharge site, it says that the ads run in the Post and the Times are incorrect, which makes me think they HAVE updated. It seems more likely that someone at the Weissler's office sent the wrong ad to the papers and is going to be very sorry for it.

Posted: 8/21/04 at 12:52pmOoooh. I didn't see that...then yeah...DAMN someone's in trouble. Barry and Fran don't like having to pay for incorrect ads.

Posted: 8/21/04 at 12:56pmNO ONE likes paying for incorrect ads. And it could be that when the ad was sent in, that that was the decision that the Weisslers had made, and then changed after it was too late for the Times and Post to undo it for today's edition.

Posted: 8/21/04 at 12:57pmThat's really strange. If they said it was the last 9 performances only, then I guess it would definately be an error, but they specifically mentioned August 29th, so maybe they nixed the ad but accidently sent it. Especially after announcing the Brooke Shieldsification, they would put the next day that it's closing. Maybe they got a hint from the message board, eh?

Posted: 8/21/04 at 12:57pmMaybe, but my money is on some poor assistant being sat home crying right now as they are going to be fired on Monday morning.
#36re: Wonderful Town to Close Aug. 29
Posted: 8/21/04 at 1:09pmThe information to the Times wouldn't come straight from the Weissler's office - it would come from the publicist. And if some assistant DOES get fired for making the mistake, it's because an ad in the Times probably costs more than their annual salary.

How can the last performance be on 8/29? I'm confused because I thought that date (8/29) is reserved for convention people only. Would they do a farewell performance for convention delegates only and exclude everyone else? It's not fair!
I have tix to see Wonderful Town this evening. I'll try to find out from the box office... if they will tell me. I'll report back here later this evening. Oh, the suspense is killing me!!!

Posted: 8/21/04 at 1:27pmWonderful Town is NOT closing. The producers had planned to close had Brooke not signed on. Obviously, the Times didn't get the correction in enough time.

Correct - and no one should get fired. Weissler co-producer, Roger Berlind, there to announce closing notice on Wednesday night because Brooke had not yet said "yes".
Therefore, the Sunday newspaper ads had already gone in with the closing to make printing deadlines...
The Weisslers, feeling a final official acceptance was coming from the actress, asked Berlind to hold off the official closing announcement.... and sure enough one hour later Brooke finally said "yes" so the show was saved (wow! almost as exciting as Chase and "Urban Cowboy" - except then of course the announcement came in front of the audience at the end of the show---as the producers had been working all day to raise additional funding to keep Urban Cowboy going).
But by then it too late to retract all the Sunday Wonderful Town ads...so some will run correctly, some will run erroneously announcing the closing/last 9 performances.
Some newspapers will cover with stories about the error.
Not the fault of any employee...no staffer being fired.
The Weisslers were fighting like crazy to get Brooke and keep running. Give them credit for that. It has a happy ending.

Posted: 8/21/04 at 3:41pmCheck out the next edition of the newspaper, another full-page ad will probably be there, announcing an extension of the show. It won't say it was a mistake, but they'll say its a special extension. You'll see lol
