The critics and reviewers are going to rip this apart just based on the casting... and rightfully so...

Even as a huge Wildhorn fan, based off the casting, I went from super excited and thinking there's a chance it'll be a hit, to ... another Wildhorn show. Too bad!

A female mad hatter is actually what did it in for me. That just bothers me... shame... it had potential (you know, except for the music... just the concept).

I agree. especially someone like Snelson as the Mad Hatter. She's too pretty, and too, well, Legally Blonde. Jayne Houdyshell (or however you spell it) would have been great.

Who cares if the Mad Hatter is played by a legume? It's Frank Wildhorn and will suck if a man, woman, or a head of lettuce plays the Mad Hatter.

For those who care, a mini-promo commercial-like-thing has been posted to the website.

The song is still "Finding Wonderland," but sung by Brandi Burkhardt (I am almost positive, unless Janet Dacal sounds like her!), as opposed to the clip on the Music/Media page, which is Lauren Kennedy (reportedly). The latter has horrible quality, so I suppose it could be the same, seeing as Kennedy and Burkhardt sound pretty similar as it is.

I'm actually not familiar with any of Wildhorn's work. Would someone care to fill me in on the hate?

Not even "Jekyll & HYDE"?

Wildhorn is noted for all four of his musicals flopping, including what I think is considered the longest running flop in Broadway history - Jekyll & HYDE (just shy of a 4-year run). I'm still convinced people don't like him because despite the financial loses, they still run & run (save for The Civil War, the only one that closed pretty much immediately).

Most people claim his scores are bad (usually, IMO thanks to bad lyrics, which .. shockingly he doesn't do (save for the occasional one), or something wrong with the book. Whatever he's doing - he's doing right, he's got tons of albums sold, and his shows (most particularly Jekyll & HYDE) are constantly being produced around the globe.

The only bad thing he's done to get hate (which stems back to 10 years ago), and I do agree this was entirely wrong, that can be justified is his attempt to save tons of money with DRACULA, the musical and especially with the recording. But that's in the past, I'm sure there's plenty of hate threads on Wildhorn.

THis is about his new show, WONDERLAND, which may very possibly be seeing the light of day on Broadway within the next years.

On the plus side... the costumes might not suck! Everything else probably will, but at least they will look kinda cool doing it!

I happen to think Brandi sounds wonderful singing that song - it's a shame she's not doing it.

As with almost an Wildhorn show, I do think we will be amazed by the sets/etc. as usual.

Philly, intended or not you are coming across as very racist in your anti-Latina Alice rants. It is a freaking FAIRY TALE. Don't see the show if it going to bother you that much that Alice is not a little white girl with blonde hair. Jesus.

PEACE.

Ah sorry Sueleen, I was in no way trying to come off as a racist. I was simply suggesting that by the parts of the script I have knowledge of, it called for someone who looked exactly like Alice Liddell - fairy tale or not, I would have assumed they'd try to stick to the general public opinion of the character for once. And I've heard the plot has been tweaked, and of all people, Jack Murphy is now doing it. as if the lyrics weren't enough...

Not to mention I really really wanted to see Lauren Kennedy (or Brandi for that matter) do it, as opposed to an "unknown" (not that Brandi nor Kennedy are necessarily big names to begin with - but not new to Wildhorn fans) -- I think everyone knows Frank needs to do so much to try to garner a hit, I don't see how casting an unknown has helped him. But I'm done ranting - I'm more than willing to give her a chance, just excited to see the show get off it's feet!
