Love Never Dies - The curtain falls as Madam Giry throws Gustave's jacket down a stairwell.

Little Women - first act ends with the song "Astonishing"

Definitely The Lion King. I know people disagree, but I think the intermission could have been placed elsewhere and it would have been much better. I do understand the reasoning though.

I agree with Little Women it is just too long for a one person song to end an act.

Purely in terms of music (not plot), Next to Normal. Plot-wise, the end of act 1 makes perfect sense, but the song is not effective at all for an Act 1 closer. Not that it's not a big-belty song; it's just lackluster in the fact that a rock musical's act 1 ends in a ballad...

The legendary Patti LuPone, the stunning Sherie Rene Scott, and the transcendent Laura Benanti hanging like cheap christmas ornaments at the end of the first act of WOMEN ON THE VERGE. Unforgivably atrocious and embarrassing attempt at spectacle.

bettyboy72- The Act 1 Finale of WOMEN ON THE VERGE was actually my favorite part of that show. It was the only song that stuck with me afterwards. The rest was so forgettable.

The Women on the Verge Act 1 finale is excellent. Hardly the WORST act 1 finale ever. This revival of Promises Promises, however... A House is Not a Home = WORST POSSIBLE WAY TO END ACT 1.

Sorry but the worst Act 1 ever belongs to Plain and Fancy where the entire town has shunned one of the leads and they sing plain we live, which has no discernible melody, is sad and depressing, moves no plot, tells nothing the audience has not realized, and they sing the following lyrics (which are just grotesque) plain we live, for plain we see its good for people to live plain, hard we work, for life is good, when life is hard we dont complain.....

I agree it's a great song but it always leaves me wanting a little. I don't know if its because it's so short or because i wanted to hear something "bigger". Although o don't like the word bigger but it's late and i can't think of anything more descriptive. Lol

Tarzan had a pretty weak Act 1 finale... i honestly didn't know it was intermission until the lights came up

I agree with The Lion King. I always thought the first act should've ended with Mufasa's death. The first act as written is entirely too long.

Goth, I totally agree with you. Sheila had sass and spunk and Cassie was just kinda whiny and dried up. If Sheila got a Music and the Mirror number I'm sure she would have nailed the part.

I always liked Sheila better.
