Another vote for the Into the Woods revival. I thought it was dreadful.

When was Kerry Butler ever in Into the Woods, let alone the revival?

And my vote for worst revival goes to Wonderful Town. It was the only Broadway show I've ever seen that I regretted not walking out on.

The INTO THE WOODS revival was nothing new, Carl Magnum? WHAT??

1) They added a Wolf and made "Agony" a duet.
2) They added the Three Little Pigs.
3) They restaged it with storybooks.
4) They made the Witch more snake-lile.
5) All the costumes were different.
6) The set design was very different.
7) The lighting design was extremely different.
re: Worst Revival Ever They added several special effects, such as the projection of Cinderella's mother.
9) They added a transformation at the end of the Witch into a snake.
10) THEY TURNED A STATIONARY PLASTIC COW INTO AN ACTOR PLAYING A REALISTIC, MOBILE COW THAT STOLE THE SHOW!!!

How on earth could you possibly say it wasn't different?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I loved the Into the Woods revival but there were some things they shouldn't of done.

Why did they add another wolf and the pigs? No point.

I'd say:
Chicago (it was great at first but know it's just gotten old.)

kyle. - WOW! Where was that production? The Witch looks like she was discovered at the bottom of the sea!

The Little Shop of Horrors revival. Beyond Hunter Foster and the three urchins, the production had nothing to offer. It made an intentionally campy, QUAINT musical into a Las Vegas show-absolutely horrifying.

As for the Chicago revival-the worst revival ever? Not a chance! All of you who are saying it's getting old, which I don't agree with, aren't even justifying it as the worst revival ever.

From what I've read, Flower Drum Song. Because it was a revisal of a show for unnecessary reasons that wasn't very good.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the dreadful revival of Once Upon A Mattress starring a miscast Sara Jessica Parker and an incredibly talented Jane Krakowski in a pedestrian role.
The 2001 revival of Follies is probably the most disappointing revival I have seen, especially after hoping the marvelous Papermill production would transfer, to get such a lackluster revival at the Roundabout has been one of the biggest letdowns in my theatregoing experience.

I thought the Bernadette revival of Annie Get Your Gun was the lamest thing I've ever seen. Hokey sets, dumb concept, miscast stars, bland choreography...

Capnhook... Agony was ALWAYS a duet. Your last point proves those of everyone who thinks it was a useless revival. A non-singing, non-speaking cow stealing every scene of a musical is by definition a bad evening of theatre.

Additionally, points 3 and 6 are the same thing. 7 is pointless considering points 3 and 6. 2. WAS pointless, as was the first part of 1. I didn't "get" the snake-like thing which eliminates points 4 & 9, Peters far outshined Williams on every level... (on t.v., no less) Point 8, I think you mean the Giant's wife, which added nothing to the show, I'd rather SEE Dame Judi Dench on stage than hear her voice on a recording. So you have different costumes. Yay! new costumes. Yeah, great revival.

Nathan, the production was at the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario. It is the largest repertory theatre in North America.

The most recent "Man of La Mancha" with Brian Stokes Mithchell was pretty bad.

1. It was "Hello, Little Girl" that became a duet (but for one day). Also, see Steve Suskin's Broadway Yearbook 2001-2002 for the reasons why 2002 was better than 1987.

2. I enjoyed Man of La Mancha. In fact, I saw it twice in two days, the second being closing night. The set was extraordinary, Ernie Sabella was funny as Sancho, and Mark Jacoby nailed "To Each His Dulcinea". And Brian sang like a god both nights. I know Harvey was good in Hairspray, but Brian should have gotten the Tony.

Agony was always a duet, "Hello Little Girl" was not.

In the Ever After picture, is that Cinderella in the middle? That's a very old cast...

Man of La Mancha was pretty bad untill Marin Mazzie came along. She made the production soar. Brian was better and everyone else was better. Brian should not have gotten the Tony, it belonged to Antonio Banderas.

Add me to those who prefer the revival of ITW. And to the people who hated Fiddler on the Roof.

I would have to go with 3Penny. Liked the cast, hated the translation - I grew up with the Marc Blitzstein version (I know, sanitized for the 1950'a) but at least it didn't turn the characters into cartoons.
