Wow. The IN MY LIFE Sampler Really ISN'T good...

Yesterday. They were giving them out all over the city.

My family got like 5 of them lol. They even hit us up after the evening performance of DRS, and it was almost 11 pm.

So I just listened to it, and it's pretty bad. The title song and "When She Danced" are passable. But what the hell is that "I Am My Mother's Son?" It's terrible.

I feel it's a cheap try to create a more serious score like PIAZZA, but so far baed on the sampler it's failing miserably.

It sounds more like a bad mix of country and elevator music.

It's sad to see a show flop, and most are expecting this show to be a major flop, but the music really is not good at all.

PS. This is funny. My Itunes read it as some ROXETTE artist, and it says "Tits and Ass Demo" LMAO. How funny is that?

There is a 3 song CD sampler and a 4 song one, "I Am my Mother's Son" is on both...however "When she Danced" is only on the 4 song CD...

I can't lie "When She Danced" is kind've stuck in my head, it's the best song on the sampler.

It's okay. Sounds like a 90's pop CD, though.

I really hated "I am my mother's son." But, hey, I guess we'll wait to see how the actual show turns out.

But, based on this CD, I wouldn't spend $60 to see it.

movieinmymind, I definitely agree with you. In my mind sounded like I had just turned on the radio and was hearing a generic pop song. I did not listen to the rest of the cd because that song lost my interest completely.

i don't know. I was sent one in the mail with In My Life, My Mother's Son, and Life Turns on a Dime. And I sort of like it. It's, I don't know, it's different than the other stuff I listen to. I like it.

It's actually a really pretty song.

But I still feel the sampler as a whole is BORING.

I got the three song sampler. I agree it sounds like a bad TLITP rip off. The BKLYN CD sampler, at least, attempted to sound like Rent but with its own little twist making the songs somewhat more R&B oriented while appealing to the Rentheads with a splash of rock but appealing also to more diverse audiences who may not like RENT by being different from the RENT songs (dont get me wrong, RENT has a far superior score compared to BKLYN but I thought the BKLYN songs at least attempted to put their own twist on the somewhat rare rock-opera Bway musical). The IN MY LIFE one is just way to similar to Piazza in so many ways. Very contrived and non-unique. Just didn't enjoy it. :-/

Oh my god...this reminds me of an off-Broadway debaucle I was a part of two years ago called New Eden. Our playwright had taken his cue for songs from the demos on his Casio keyboard.

I hate to be critical, but I Am My Mother's Son is simply terrible. The singer is consistantly off-pitch.

a) Good or not these songs sound absolutely NOTHING like light in the piazza and are not even close to the same genre of music.

b) I think the recording is really bad and find it kind of hard to judge the quality of the songs, especially seeing I don't know their context in what seems like a character driven show. Why not just wait and see how good or bad this show is. Personally, I have no expectations but am excited to see it as it pretty much promises to be the ONLY musical on broadway this season that is completely original. No wonder more original musicals don't make it to broadway if they constantly receive this negative buzz for no apparent reason. (it started even BEFORE this sampler cd existed)

Something to consider. The composers of this musical are the two guys from ABBA.

This should clear up the mystery of why this music is not so pleasing. ABBA music worked back then, and it works now for it's retro value, but NEW ABBA music?

I haven't heard the sampler, so I could be off base here. Just taking a stab at it based on available information.

umm, no it's not. it's by Joe Brooks. Writer of "You Light Up my Life" and other hit songs which nobodys ever heard of. Oh wait, theyre not hits.
