Ah.. but in that last example of yours (or as I like to call it - the show with many titles) - I don't think Tune's ankle had anything to do with it never making it to Broadway. Ankles heal. From what I heard going on behind the scenes (and from those that saw it on the road) - it just didn't work. It's was a show about dancing that had very little dancing (or big dance #s) in it.
Didn't Applegate also break her ankle on a lamppost. Is this why there's been no revival of "Me and My Girl" ?

I'm just saying that had Tune not broken his ankle, the show would have opened on Broadway as scheduled -- mind you, it would have gotten across the board pans and probably closed a week later, but from what I heard, no one had the heart to shut it down beforehand. Tune's ankle would have taken months to heal and the postponement would have caused losses so substantial that the production could have never recovered from them after he came back. So, instead the ankle excuse allowed them to save face and close with some dignity (rather than having the plug pulled because the show sucked, even if that was the truth) -- and I'm guessing the insurance policy they probably had on him probably covered a large chunk of the losses.
CHARITY was shut down by Barry Weissler and was not coming in after Applegate broke her ankle, until she assured them she would be ready to perform by the NY opening night and no postponement was necessary (and I believe she had her lawyers give a little talk to Weissler to get him to come around to her position).
And yes, lampposts are apparently cursed -- so says Tommy Tune to this day.

The BroadwayWorld article posted today makes it seem that the show is still on...just no Krakowski.

Posted: 2/2/07 at 2:19pmI'm not surprised about Krakowski not being on board. I've said many a time before today that she would not leave 30 Rock to return to Broadway. Especially since it's the first season, it's doing well etc.

I thought 30 Rock wasn't doing that well. I'm glad it is though, Krakowski is great in it. I did not think her schedule with the show would come in conflict with Xanadu.
Playbill.com also says that the May 7 opening is still scheduled so as MichaelBennett said, Krakowski is indeed replaceable and the show is going forward without her, though now that she is no longer attached to the project I lost all interest in seeing it.

She was on The View co-hosting last week. Not sure if she mentioned it, but when I turned it on they were talking about Grey Gardens.
It's probably wise of her to skip this. It's going to be pure camp, but nothing artistic.

An offer has been extended to another Tony Award winner to replace Krakowski. I can't imagine this star would agree to do the show. Shes wee - bit busy this season.
But, plans are, for now, defintely moving forward to bring the show to Broadway this season.

Posted: 2/7/07 at 11:15amWow...ooooh....another Tony Award winning actress has been offered the part. Only a TRUE Broadway mover and shaker would know this TOP secret information. I swear to GOD, between those of you who proclaim to be "friends" with so-and-so and others who are junior Walter WInchells, I could just puke at your perceived self-importance. Get a grip.

Hamlet - I've yet to see you bring anything constructive or insightful to the board - when you do, feel free to bring me to task.
And everything you need to know to figure out the Tony Award winner is in my post. Its not a completely random blind item.
