I won't post a review but just two comments.
1. The audience, again, was as diverse as diverse could be (and they lined up in the heat VERY early to get in....
2. It has been a LONG time since I have heard such deafening applause, screams, yells, clapping, etc at the end of a show. I'm not trying to give false exaggerations here.. but sincerely I was completely blown away from the energy coming from the audience (throughout the show too) - but especially for the end of the finale, curtain call and final playout.
Good reviews, bad reviews - we shall see on Tuesday - but one thing for sure is that it's a crowd pleaser.

Craig,
Other than Kenita, was anyone else out?
I saw Kerry, Andre, and Curtis prior to the matinee today, and kept thinking that they HAD top be tired... four shows the last two days---
TIA !!

Kenita was not actually "out." She wasn't in her role, but she was singing in the "pit".
Everyone else was on - had tons of energy and no signs of fatigue at all

Posted: 7/8/07 at 10:24pmYeah, meant out of her role--- (btw, Patti has gotten MUCH better) - Listening to Kenita talking to one of the show's producers the other day--- Looks like she might be off that ankle for quite some time.

Posted: 7/9/07 at 12:55amI saw this performance too...my second visit to Xanadu--saw an early preview. I was delighted with the changes....Mr. Jackson brings an amazing new energy to the show and Patti Murin was delightful! I'm getting hooked on this show---and I have good feelings that it will have a life!

I had two friends in the audience tonight (2nd time for one, 1st time for the other) who also said it was an amazing show. I have another acquaintance who has tickets for next Saturday, and it'll be his SIXTH time going (he went his first time thanks to my initial praise)!
I'm bummed I'm probably not going to get to see it again before I move to Florida. I'll have to wait for the cast recording to re-live my own personal Xanadu.
Looking forward to reading the "official" reviews!

My best friend was there tonight. I havn't gotten a FULL review yet, but He said it had improved since the time we saw it (June 15th 2007 -Curtis Holbrook on as Sonny)
I can't wait to get the full review.

Posted: 7/9/07 at 9:11amWhen I went, Thursday night, the crowd was not only a sold out crowd but was as rowdy as the folks at Evil Dead: The Musical. I loved it just as much as they did, and was almost tempted to join the rowdiness. I love having this much fun at theatre.

Hey Bert! Yup, moving back in two weeks. No more winter for me - yay! Of course, it sadly also means no more Xanadu for me either, until either the tour reaches Orlando or a local production audtions! By that time, I should be ready to play Danny. Sigh...

Posted: 7/9/07 at 9:28amThe theater is so small that by the time the producers/creative team/ cast and other people working on the show got their tickets for their family a friends, there would hardly be seats left.

I saw the show Sunday night too (but didn't see you Craig).
Now... The first time I saw the film was Sunday morning, before the show and it probably helped me understand and enjoy the show much more than if I hadn't. It's very tongue-in-cheek, making fun of the film itself throughout.
I really enjoyed it - I went along for the ride and I agree with Craig that it was the most excited I've seen an audience in a long time.
Forget what the reviews may say, audiences love this show.

I saw it too..and was bored for long periods at a time...as were others checking their watches around me...the two guys next to me were quite funny saying.."the longest 90 minutes of the weekend!"..
That being said, Jackson is great and Mary Testa and Jackie Hoffman have a few killer lines. Tony Roberts is in the wrong show...Kerry Butler tries in earnest!
To me it was like a Forbidden Hollywood skit..and could have been 15 minutes instead of 90..
The house was clearly papaered and padded....Lots of $0 tickets on line...thus "the energy".

Posted: 7/9/07 at 10:36amInteresting observation Eva.. however, the cast and house staff have said the audiences have had similar reactions (the screaming, thunderous applause) for a few weeks now. So it wasn't just last night. And not sure how you would be able to survey 600 people to know that lots of them didn't pay.. but whatev. You didn't enjoy it and to each their own.
