If I send someone my cd, could someone possibly get this signed by Mel Brooks as well as thiers? This is only if someone was already going. PM me if you can.
Edit - Sorry to caps the title, but I need it out by tommarow and the adress by tonight.

Posted: 1/4/08 at 1:04pmI think the way it works is that you have to buy a cd from Barnes and Noble and that's the only thing that can get signed. I'm not positive, but that's how it worked with Kristin Chenoweth. So I believe you'll have to get someone to go and buy you a cd and get it signed, but they can't get anything else signed. Who knows though, maybe they'll be less strict.

Yup. You have to purchase the CD at their store on the same day -- no previously purchased CDs will be permitted and no other merchandise will be permitted either (no Playbills, window cards, etc.).
This is always the case with books and CD signings, unfortunately. Regardless of the store hosting the signing.
Only the item they are having the signing for can be autographed. Most of the time items can't be personalized but each artist tends to be generious enough to ignore that request.

"...no previously purchased CDs will be permitted and no other merchandise will be permitted either..."
Can you just sneak a copy of the recording in, buy the one at Barnes and Noble, then hand them the one you brought? Then return the unopened one later? How would they know the difference - you open it to get it signed, anyways.
Or do they inspect your bags or something?

I've been to CD signings at Barnes & Noble for 110 IN THE SHADE, CURTAINS, and HIGH FIDELITY. I didn't buy any of those CDs at Barnes & Noble. Have they changed their policy?
When I went to the GREASE CD signing at the Virgin Megastore however, you had to have bought the CD there.

millie_dillmount -- that's a smart and clever idea. I'm sure that'll work as long as you actually DO buy the CD and have the receipt. When in line they sometimes do check your receipt so you'll be fine.
Just make sure you don't return the purchased CD until AFTER you've obtained the autographs on your original CD.

Posted: 1/5/08 at 1:32amWith all of the cd (Company, Curtains and one other that I can't remember) and book (Daniel Silva and Jasper Fforde) signings that I've been to at that store I've never heard anyone say that I had to purchase the item there. I've always just walked in with my own item. In fact for the Curtains cd signing, all I brought was the booklet.

Posted: 1/5/08 at 12:28pmTrace, I share your confusion. I haven't been to any CD signings, but I've been to plenty of book signings, including at that very Barnes and Noble in October where I already had the book and there was no problem with getting it signed. (I do agree that it's only the item being promoted ~ though there have been occasional exceptions if there was say a magazine article related to the book.)

Brody is making up his own rules in an attempt to sound superior, when what he says is in fact not the case (he doesn't even live around here).
Previously purchased CDs are of course permitted at the CD signings for Broadway shows.
I have been to almost every one in the past four years, have almost always purchased the CD somewhere else for a cheaper price, and have never had a problem getting it signed by the cast and creative team.
