Can I just be a nerd for a minute and say I love her vowels? They're not SO overly modified on the high notes that I can't actually understand the lyric (like some sopranos).
Dull. Up to ASPECTS OF LOVE standard.
The song is what it is. Very typical ALW. It was just ok. My problem is with the performance. Is this the "Christine-Bot" I've heard about. She has a pretty face and a pretty voice. However, her face is expressionless and her eyes are hollow. Soulless. Vapid. A plank of wood. I hope this is not indacitive of how she intends to play this night after night.
^ well that's pretty much how she did her Christine in Vegas so don't get your hopes up...
^ from what i've read in reviews, online and on this chat board, you are in the minority by far on your opinion of her acting abilities.
I saw both christines in las vegas and i thought she was far better than elizabeth. and i think the way she would perform it in the show would def be different than in a concert setting. i mean, isn't that almost always the case? idina wasn't flying around on a cherry picker at her concerts, right?
"idina wasn't flying around on a cherry picker at her concerts, right?"
Granted. She also didn't perform her songs as if she were a Deer-bot caught in headlights either.
Talk about totally misconstruing a concept, Sierra does NOT play Christine-bot, that is played by a (wait for it) ROBOT designed by Bob Crowley.
And the claims that Sierra acts like a robot just aren't visible here or elsewhere, at least to me.
P
Ah, the Christine-bot. All this fuss about Bob Crowley making an ACTUAL robot. For heavens sake! Have they not heard of actresses, costume and make-up. Judy Kuhn managed a very passable robot in Metropolis at the Piccadilly Theatre 20 years ago!
Never mind the gadget gimmicks, give us an exciting NEW score. Re-heats not permitted!
I dunno. I don't think all the fuss is about the fact that he *made* a *robot* as to what use that robot would be put to in the show. Anyway, I think it would be equally tacky to have the Phantom making love to an actress costumed and made up as a robot as it would be to have him doing the same things to a robot...well.....maybe.....almost.
Mama, why did that pretty lady make my ears bleed?
that really was a boring song. Sierra is GORGEOUS and I really do like her voice...she's a perfect Christine.

What interests me is the casting of this production. I've just watched one or two of the video blogs from their rehearsals, and what struck me was how young the entire cast appeared. Isn't this production set some years after the original? It looks as if they've cast a production of a PREquel rather than a sequel. She looks significantly younger than both Brightman, and some of the Christine's I've seen on Broadway. And he looks fifteen years or more younger than Crawford did when he was playing the role in his early 40s.

It makes no sense but they have to be ~young and sexy~
Also, no one said the age of the actors in the original production was at all a reflection on the age of the characters they were playing. Christine was always supposed to be a teenager as far as I know. She's just never played by an actress that young.

In the book she's in her 20s.
actually, Sierra is age appropriate. Christine is roughly 18 in the original and the sequel takes place 10 years later. Ramin is definitely too young, but it isn't an issue since his face isn't seen.

Sierra has gorgeous vocals but is entirely uninteresting.
I like it. I'm a huge fan of Phantom and I'm so glad they're making a sequel. However I think the high notes are just for show and I couldn't really understand what she said in that period of super-high high notes. But it's still awesome. I hope there are some exciting songs in this one, cuz "Till I Hear You Sing Once More" and "Love Never Dies" are very lovey.
I'm supprised no one here has commented on the track prieview clips up on Amazon.com
unless I missed that post.
or
unless they are so dreadfull that no one wants to comment.
Some of those song titles (Once Upon Another Time, Beneath a Moonless Sky, The Beauty Underneath etc) look like they were lifted straight from a 15 year old girls diary of secret poems...this is sure to be a hit.

I like how Raoul appears to be a cranky jerk, presumably so Erik will look better by comparison.
Also, boy sopranos creep me out.

Wow, I forgot how much I enjoy Sierra's voice!

HA HA HA! I also love "Mother please, I'm scared" and "The Phantom confronts Christine". Um, really?
