Is THE GRINCH coming back this season? I'm assuming not but that's kinda awkward that it came back two years in a row and then disappeared...
THE GRINCH is not coming back this season.
They're currently on tour, though.
Not surprising. I saw it in August and enjoyed it. The score wasn't as good as The Producers and the whole show came off as overblown spectacle, but I still found it mildly entertaining. The whole $450 ticket thing created a lot of bad press for the show early on and probably drove many potential theatergoers away.
Brooks and Co. were clearly trying to keep the show afloat with their courting of Jack Black and Cloris Leachman. When that didn't pan out, I guess they decided to just throw in the towel.
Well now the Hilton is free for Spider-Man. A formal announcement is likely forthcoming.
hopefully Avenue Q is next on the hitlist
You're an awful, miserable human being.
i was kind of expecting it, but not right after Chris Fitzgerald left.

THE GRINCH will be in Boston this season at the Colonial Theater from 12/09 to 12/18~that replaced the supposedly Harry Connick. Jr. Musical. The cast includes Andrew Keenan Bolger, Stefan Carl & Walter Charles.

I was just watching "Elmo's World" with my daughter and Andrea Martin was making one of her many vocal appearances. I was recalling how much I enjoyed her performance in YF (actually I didn't loathe the show at all; I thought it was harmless fun). Another one bites the dust, I guess. I have a feeling The Hilton may remain empty for a while...
Someone is probably going to say something rude about this, but I think Young Frankenstein is one of the best shows on broadway right now. It's high paced and funny, such a shame its closing. All of my favorite shows are closing
And now Roger Bart will be out of work!!
I'm gonna miss this one. Although not the best, it was an amazingly enjoyable night of theatre. Christopher Fitzgerald was so hilarious, and it was just a darn fun show!!!
Bart won't have trouble finding another job.
I am very sad actually. but it was inevitable. I am a youngin'. not incredibly young, 17. So my first time to NYC was last october and Young Frank was the first of 6 shows I was seeing that weekend. So it was my first Broadway show, although I have seen tours of other shows. I saw it in previews so this show will always be very special to me and I am a huge fan of the movie. so I am sad to see it go.
Honestly, if I had a choice, I think I'd have preferred that GREASE! close before YOUNG FRANKIE.
And AVENUE Q isn't that stale... if you like the material, it's still a good time.
i went to see YF and LOVED it... maybe it was because of sutton? lol
all I know is...
i would much rather see YF than Spiderman.. GROSS! KEEP SPIDERMAN AWAY!

Actually, the Grinch will be playing at Boston's CitiCenter (formerly the Wang Theatre).

Bustopherphantom---Grease is still open?!!! I keep forgetting about it---it was (for me) so boring. I really thought YF had so much more going for it. The hermit scene alone is a keeper.
I enjoyed YF more than The Producers, (I actually fell asleep in the 2nd act at that one!)
I think we should all be praying no more shows close on Broadway for a while- much more carnage and even the bravest producers will start to get twitchy about bringing in new material. Then where will we be for the next couple of years?
You know, it could have been so much worse, and I really did enjoy it.
As for what's next (and how to break the curse of the Hilton Theatre), how about that "Dirty Dancing?" They certainly have their pick of theaters, and they are packing them in here in Chicago.

From what I understand Paul, Spider-Man is aiming for the Hilton theatre.
Yer, i heard Spiderman was also..
I really enjoyed YF back in April ! It was much better than I expected and I have to say, I enjoyed it way more than THE PRODUCERS ! I think the biggest downfall for this show, was that Mel Brooks couldn't keep his big mouth shut ! Driven by his huge ego, he became the worst PR for the show ! He alienated the Broadway enthusiasts and the press, with mistake after mistake like premium prices, the unprecedented no release of grosses, his full of arrogance interviews and commercials etc. So he had NO support from anything but the show, which wasn't THAT incredible to bring in the huge crowds by itself !

Greekmusicalfan---I agree with everything you've said (unfortunately). Great show---bad pre-show publicity.

Grease is still open. I, for one, hope it stays for a while.
Some of this board never miss an opportunity to knock it. Congrats to those on the numerous cheap shots.
