In what way wouldn't it be kosher? I seldom pay full price for anything...and, in fact, don't think I have at all this year....but I doubt my average is as low as yours.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

My love for theater is demonstrated by how much I go, not on how much I pay, normally I go twice a week.

I am reliant on cheap tickets, so that I can see more shows.

I don't go to NYC often so I often pay full price to see shows, to ensure I get amazing seats. It usually isn't necessary but I don't want to take the risk. For example, I bought full price tickets to see THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, FOLLIES, NEXT TO NORMAL...I bought premium seats (twice) to see Bernadette in NIGHT MUSIC. I also rationalise the expense by telling myself that if it weren't for people like me these shows wouldn't run. No show can make a profit or even break even on a ticket price of $30.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

I guess I haven't really thought about it. I only get to NYC every couple of years. I see all the national tours that come through my city, I work at the venue where they play so I get comped to everything. I guess the average I pay for local shows would around $30 - I use my student ID and online offers to get discount tickets. Whenever I go to NYC, I splurge on tickets and pay full price. The only show I ever bought a premium seat for was The Book of Mormon. The others I have always bought mezzanine or balcony seats since that is my favorite place to sit.

If I want to see a show with no discount, I will pay full price for the cheapest seats. Otherwise I'm reliant on discounts, rushes and lottos, and probably spend a mean of ~$35-40.

I usually do this at the end of the year, but I'm bored, so I might as well...

*Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (1/16/2013) - $43
*Ann (3/8/2013) - $41
*Hands On A Hardbody (3/13/2013) - $32
*Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (3/13/2013)- $43
*Macbeth (4/26/2013) - $43
*Jekyll & Hyde (5/7/2013) - $89 (this was a gift though)
*The Asembled Parties (7/3/2013) - $41
*Kinky Boots (7/17/2013) - $108
*Motown: The Musical (7/24/2013) - $30
*Pippin (7/24/2013) - $75

Average: $54.50

...this is by far my most expensive year in theatre

Whenever I go to NYC, I try to aim for an average of $60/ticket.

It's pretty tough to do coming from out of town, but by using discounts (either online codes or Roundabout HIPTIX, etc.) and opting for cheaper seats at a couple shows, I'm usually pretty close to that.

I don't get to NYC that often so I usually will pay top orchestra price for one show and discounts for two shows so I get my average ticket price would be around $90.

I live 3 hours from NYC. So I shoot in for the day 4 or 5 times a year. The last thing I want to do is waste any of that day waiting in lines for cheap tickets. I also don't want to go through all the bother of that commute just to end up in mediocre seats. So I always get full price (never premium) seats well in advance. I find that if I time it right and/or keep checking availability, I can usually get something around 8th row center (ideal for me.)

I also manage some box offices as part of my job. So I know how to work the system to get what I want. I almost always get regular, full price seats that are right next to premium seats. That's where my "savvy" comes in.

So for about 8 to 10 shows a year I pay an average of $130 each.

My average ticket price is around 120 dollars or so. Theater is definitely the financial splurge in my life, and it's a very expensive habit.

Is there a point to this thread? Just seems like a place for those to brag about how little or how much they spend on tickets.

Rather than yell at us to get off your lawn, why don't you just stick to reading the threads that are important enough for you.

I think it's a very interesting thread. I'm shocked that so many of the average prices are so low.
