Catherine O'Hara.
There is nothing the woman cannot do. And I think she'd be extraordinary. Just watched her in MIGHTY WIND and CONSIDERATION again this past weekend.
I think she'd be revelatory. And she sings just fine.

Who said it worked?

I've been saying this on this board for years... I'm ALL for a DOLLY revival. Has there been absolutely any talk at all of reviving this treasure of a musical? It's long overdue.
Clearly, for it to work and be a hit, you NEED a BIG, above-the-title name. I suggested Bette a few years ago on here. She'd kick ass, she has the attitude, the age, the acting and the singing chops (she already does what, at least six shows a week in Vegas?). Plus it would get her back to Broadway after more than 40 years. Of course, Bernadette and Reba would also be GREAT. I can picture them both in that red dress making that grand entrance at Harmonia Gardens. HOT!
I like the idea of Christopher Fitzgerald as Cornelius. The part's made for a quirky comedic actor, not an attractive leading man (not to say Fitzgerald isn't attractive). Michael Urie could do it, too.

^Urie reads too young. Maybe in 5 or 6 years. He'd make an adorable Barnaby. So would Bobby Steggert. The problem with suggesting a young Kevin Chamberlain or Michael Jeter isn't so much the talent, because I agree the comedic timing and dorkiness is what they need, but he can't be...funny looking or fat. Irene still has to look and see "attractive." Fitzgerald is a better choice.
And, least we forget, Russell Nype, who closed the show as Cornelius, definitely did NOT look 28 and a half.
Personally, I like the movie and think that Streisand does work. But I'm in the minority there.

I too think dolly parton wouldn't be a bad choice it's a role she wants and she can sell those tickets and the her voice still sounds wonderful so as long as she dosn't change the orchestrations....

Wow, Katie Finneran would be divine! How do we make that happen?

You know...I wasn't sure but now I can't get the idea of Megan Mullally out of my head...
Dolly: Reba
Horace: Boyd Gaines
Irene: Anne Hathaway
Cornelius: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Barnaby: Bobby Steggert
Minnie: Jen Cody
Regarding Katie Finneran, I'd love to see her as Mame.

My dream is to time travel back to the early 1960's and have Shirley Booth do the musical, since she was so perfect in the movie of The Matchmaker. In fact, the whole cast of that movie was perfect.
I love the idea of Dolly Parton as Dolly! To me, it seems perfect. I always thought she had such a wonderful presence on film and stage. I like Reba and Queen Latifah, too!

Reba would be interesting...but I think she's still on the "no revivals" thing. (She'd also be perfect as Miss Sally Adams in Call Me Madam...just sayin')
I think Patti and Mandy as Dolly and Horace would be terrific. Or Patti and Mandy as Golde and Tevye. Maybe a double bill?
