FYI-
number of performances actually has nothing to do with a show being considered a flop. a flop is any show that does not recoup it's original investment.

Sorry, I just have to put it out there.
The Moony Shapiro Songbook.
I never saw it or heard the songs,
but I admire the fact it happened.
:)

I didn't think there was a recording, seeing as I thought it was only a 1 performance run.
I'm just a Gary Beach fan is all, and I think it's interesting Goldbloom did a show.
How's the recording?

Had to change the Subject line...the misspelling was bothering me!
But to the topic, my favorite flop is "Lennon."
Does anyone know if the revival of "The Music Man" flopped as well?

Diane: Aww, you are such a chick flick. I would totally pay $12 to see you. (Kristin Chenoweth on "Ugly Betty") http://musicalangel12.blogspot.com <-- my blog. Give it a read, please.

The Moony Shapiro Songbook recording is actually of the original London cast, so alas no Gary Beach or Judy Kaye or Jeff Goldblum, not to mention Timothy Jerome or Annie McGreevey. The London cast ain't bad, and the concept and material are interesting. The CD is usually available used on amazon.com, for not too outrageous of a price (I think I bought mine for $22.) I believe there's a Judy Kaye website with pics of all of them in the Broadway production, if you're interested in seeing that.
Oh, and it played at the Morosco! RIP.

Yeah because I was gonna say, there's definetly no way there's a recording of it from Broadway.
Thanks for the info =).

Hands down "Carrie" And while I was not fortunate enough to see it (I turned 2 the day it began previews), I am WELL aware of the show and what all went on with it.
Closely following "Carrie" is "In My Life" because it was at least a damn enterntaing evening, if nothing else. And, it was original, which makes it trump 99% of what is now running.
I *think* performances do count eventually. Even at a loss, if it runs a year or two, it can't really be called a flop, just to be fair to the shows that worked for their flop status.

Geeze, that's more shows than I'd care to admit, I think.

GOLDILOCKS(195
starring Elaine Stritch and Don Ameche, with Pat Stanley, Russell Nype and Margaret Hamilton, music by Leroy Anderson, book and lyrics by Walter and Jean Kerr, directed by Walter Kerr(the famous theatre critic) and choreographed by Agnes deMille. What credentials! The show ran for 161 performances. I was a teenager when I saw it and loved it. The CD is still available. I wish it contained the dance music which was great. This is another example of the trouble that some shows get into when the book writer and the director are the same. Another example was Arthur Laurents's NICK & NORA, a flop which was the worst show I have ever seen.
Edit: I don't know how the little face got into this post! Maybe it's from Elaine Stritch who didn't think much of the show, according to her AT LIBERTY. It dates from 1958.

Never Gonna Dance.
Allthough I never got to see it (and I could kick myself)
Taboo.
And though I don't concider it a flop, even though it didn't recoup, my all time favorite whatever: Thoroughly Modern Millie!

There is such a thing as a flop d'estime. I would put Caroline in that category with The Golden Apple, Side Show and several of the Sondheim shows which have great scores but were not really that great shows. I would put Taboo in my list because I love the score.
Zombie Prom didn't play Broadway--was it a flop Off-Broadway? It's done a lot in High Schools and small theatres.

Seussical.
I've seen it twice (not on Bway, though).

Oh a lot!
Golden Boy (didn't recoup and is rarely done today), The Happy Time, The Rink, Merrily We Roll Along, Mack and Mabel. They're all wonderful!
