CAROLINE, OR CHANGE did not tour.
The Ahmanson run was just that -- a run at the Ahmanson after it's Broadway run, with most of it's original cast.
The show never had a National Tour, unfortunately.
The Ahmanson "run"? also went to San francisco.

I don't think I would categorize LOTR as a flop. It may have had mixed reviews and not had been AS successful in Toronto as the producers would have liked but do you really know of a collective group of people taking a 30 Million dollar flop from one city and transplanting that same flop to a completely different continent just to flop again? I think that if it was as unsuccessful as people think it is the producers would have closed up shop in Canada. Also, a big name like laura michelle kelley taking on a role that is sure to be flop after the lead in a HUGE show in London. not to mention some of the others that are signed on. Come on.......It isn't as bad as many of you make it out to be. I saw it and can say first hand.
San Fran was pre-Broadway, BroadwayBaby6.
I think.
I didn't follow musicals then.

Wedding Singer!! And by the way, I consider this a flop because of how much they hyped it up, it was on open run, etc...

Im not sure it was a flop but Im going to assume since it had such a undeservingly short run but Parade. Its sheer brilliance. Also, in the spirit of JRB Im gonna have to say Last 5 Years as well.
Carrie, Taboo, and The Look of LOve....

Exactly. 30 million dollars lost. That makes its initial production a flop. Just because you have some weird allegiance to the show doesn't change the facts.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Not because of the show, because of the memories.
High Fidelity
It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman
This is a very interesting topic..........what really makes a show a flop? Does that mean a show that only ran for practically no performances, or does it mean when a show didn't recoup it's investment?
The recent revival of "42nd Street" that played for 4 & 1/2 years on Broadway, was a financial flop........it didn't make back it's cost.
"Dear World" with the amazing Angela L, who won her 2nd Tony Award, was labeled a flop, too.
If I'm not mistaken, the original "Sweeney Todd" constitues as a flop as it didn't make back it's money, either.
The list goes on and on.
Gypsy 2003 Revival
Caroline or Change
Ragtime
Into the Woods
...actually my favorite shows happen to be flops except for the recent exception of Sweeney Todd.
nealb1: I think that the original Sweeney closed in the red, but through the national tour, and cast recording and DVD sales, the show made back its money.
Can someone confirm this? Margo? B12B?

Side Show, Sweet Smell of Success, The Scarlet Pimpernel
and especially Steel Pier
Because (in my opinion) they all have just fantastic scores, and i really think they could succeed in a revival with some tweaking and with different marketing and advertising which i think is really important
