2) The Sound of Music
3) The Wizard of Oz
4) South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
5) Singin' in the Rain tied with Summer Stock
Honorable mentions to Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and many other MGM movie musicals.
The tv-movies that ABC made for a few years there (Cinderella, Annie, Bye Bye Birdie) were also really great, with the exception of The Music Man.

Oliver
Music Man (the real one with Robert Preston not the awful one with Mannered Broderick)
Singin' in the Rain
1776
The Sound of Music
As for the Producers - thanks to a really bad director and yet another unbelievably mannered performance by Mr. Broderick - it sucked.

"Even though it wasn't baed on a stage show, I can't BELIEVE no one has mentioned Singin in the Rain, widely accepted to be the best movie musical EVER. And probably my number 6 (but only because I've seen it so often and its novelty has worn off).
Y'all are philistines."
Apparently you did not read all of the previous threads to your own. Singin' in the Rain was my number one and mentioned at least one or two other times before your post.

Singin' in the Rain was a stage show!
I believe what was meant, is that the film isn't based on a Broadway show. At least, that's how I read it.
