It looks like Zhivago is coming to Broadway. The official website is up!

Lucy Simon's "The Secret Garden" is my all time favorite score. I wish she could do something magical in this show as well.
It says Fall 2007...They better hurry! :O)

Well, at least we know there are plans to take it to Broadway.
Last I heard it is going to be opening in the West End next year.
If it arrives on Broadway, it'll close quicker than LESTAT and THE PIRATE QUEEN did.
Broadway doesn't like snoozers anymore. They want PRETTY WOMAN: The Musical.

I think this one might last a little longer.

I wonder if Jason Danieley will still be attached to the project.

In the most recent production that role was played by Matt Bogart, but that is because Danieley was in Curtains. I wonder who they will chose!
Their website says the show is opening on Broadway OR London's West End. Kind of an odd statement.

I know they were considering bringing it straight to Broadway, but then they were playing with the idea of bringing it to London then Broadway.

So long as they don't open it in Billings, Montana.
That website has been up for a long time. I wouldn't use it to judge the question of a Broadway opening.

According to this column by Baz Bamigboye in the Nov. 2 edition of the London Daily Mail, the musical Zhivago will open in London in October:

I often wonder what musicals TheEnchantedHunter likes. Tenderloin?
The website is very ugly IMO & does not leap out & grab you.
My partners and I spent a great deal of time trying to nail down the rights to Doctor Zhivago - the rights to the movie are an incredible mess - and then we heard someone else had them. I was expecting... well, I wasn't expecting anything like what I heard. The music just had no flavor. This is one of the greatest love stories ever told. It won the Nobel Prize in Literature for a reason. I hate myself for saying this, but I'd prefer to hear the show done by the Les Miz composers than Lucy Simon.
Oh well.....
I know a lot of people love the score to Secret Garden -- I for one think it is one of the most boring excuses for a Musical Score.
Boublil & Schornberg would have been better probably, I agree.
But why not whoever wrote Grey Gardens? Or even Guettel?
Dear Lord, not Adam "My music makes Schoenberg sound positively melodic" Guettel.
The idea to do Doctor Zhivago cam about when we were sitting around talking about mounting a real potboiler. I suggested "Reds" because of all the flag-waving numbers a la Les Miz and my partner suggested "Why not Doctor Zhivago?" and instantl we knew we had a great idea. The story would work as an opera. Judging from what I've heard, it's now a chamber piece.
I was not impressed.
allofmylife, Did you see the production at The La Jolla Playhouse or the reworked version done for charity in NYC?

There were two productions at La Jolla. The difference between the two was like night and day.
I hope they at least get a new logo.
Allofmylife- They do not have the rights for the movie, only the book.
needy, I did not know that. I saw a very early production-still in previews. What did they change?

They changed every single thing about it.
Did you see the main stage production in the Mandell Weiss or the page to stage in the Potiker?
I will try and post some pictures of the newest production but they are HUGE!
I saw the production in the main theatre a couple of days before opening night and one short rehearsal segment early on.
I had the opportunity to speak to Lucy Simon at that rehearsal. Clearly, she was the driving force behind the musical. I learned later that it was she who secured the rights for the show.
This is a labor of love for her and I got the impression that she poured her soul into the music.
On the other hand, I could understand the rather negative reviews. I felt the storyline was uneven and as some put it- a bit of a mess. But, I loved much of the score especially the quiet ballads.
I've heard that the openings for both the first and second acts have been changed for the London production but I have no idea what was done. I wish I could see the West End result.
Thanks neddy. I'd love to see some pictures

The book is a mess but the score was gorgeous.
I also thought the production was visually beautiful to look at.
