a shut out, in this case, as its been in years past, are "big shows" that are snubbed for major awards (ie- best musical, book, lead actors)

This is one of the saddest days in BWW history. And in this case, as its been in years past, "saddest" means "most hilariously ignorant". But everyone knows that, right?

Sad a lot of talent in that show and not half as bad as people say. IT DOES NOT SUCK. Its pretty damn funny and has some incredibly wonderful moments. Went the other night thinking I would hate it and was thrilled by so much of it. Addams deserved noms for set, lighting, actor, featured actress a few times ( Krysta, Jackie, Carolee, Choreography, and costume

JoeKv99, I think it's a general sports term for when you win and the other team has no points by the end of the game. In this situation, I believe you could say Bye Bye Birdie, Brighton Beach Memoirs, and Burn the Floor were shut out, but The Addams Family was not. Also, who would be the opponent? Fela? La Cage? I don't see how this term can apply.

Nathan deserved a nomination. The amount of effort he puts into this show every night results in it being about fifty times more entertaining than it has any right to be.

I wonder when the advance will dry up & it starts appearing on TDF & TKTS regularly

It will be interesting if Lane will take back his statement about this being his last musical & will want his last one to be more memorable.

It actually bothers me that Addams Family got the nominations it did. While I would have added one nomination (Jackie Hoffman), I don't think it deserved anything for score. It's the same way I felt when that mess of a revival of Guys & Dolls somehow got a Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Musical.

About her Tony nomination, Valerie Harper said, "I now understand what people mean when they say that the nomination itself is a win." In that light, for such a train-wreck of a score to "win" in such a way is just wrong. I'm aware that the category is rather weak this year, but I would have almost rather they just nominate another play, as opposed to Addams.

Sunday in the Park with George, LaChiusa's The Wild Party, Chicago, Grey Gardens, Caroline, or Change, Sweet Charity, Pacific Overtures, Miss Saigon, Side Show - all scores that scored a nomination, yet didn't win. To see The Addams Family join this illustrious group saddens me somewhat.

As a replacement, Nathan Lane was not eligible for nomination. Danny Burstein had already been nominated for originating the role of Aldolpho in 2006...

adamgreer- others deserved that nomination over Lane and Kimball.

I do not think Mr.Lane was expecting anything.
