I wasn't messin' with her, I just said that Bebe is the perfect person to originate the role of Morticia, for many reasons. I can explain, but none of the explanations would defile the brilliant Jan. They are mutually exclusive issues.

Also, what other role would fit Bebe perfectly! Bebe is Bebe, and she deserves her fame and honor for exactly what she is (and nothing more), but still is part of Theatre. I'm glad she came back, and with this role is perfect.

I didn't realize that Morticia was supposed to make ears bleed. I think if her voice sounded more pleasant, then "Death is Just Around the Corner" would have more irony, possibly making it actually funny.

To answer your question, I thought that Bebe Neuwirth was a near perfect fit for Velma in Chicago. In that, she was able to show off her amazing dancing, which I have heard she doesn't get to do as much in The Addams Family.

Actually, I will disagree with you that Bebe was not a near perfect fit for Velma-- exactly because Velma needs a strong, vibrant, and nasty vibrato, and Bebe's vibrato did flatten it. (please don't threaten to bash me against some palace steps like Jordan did). And, the moment when Bebe does "dance" in the show, the way it is done is pure irony.

To be fair, no, I have not actually been able to see the show live, so I'm basing my opinion off the cast recording. Maybe she sounds different live, but I just can not stand that vibrato on the cast recording. I'm sure that her acting is great, but that's not what I'm complaining about because I can't really judge that yet. Morethan Just Malice, I think we'll have to agree to disagree about Bebe Neuwith's casting.

Okay, I came back, after a drink, and rethought my statement about Bebe not being great for Velma. I think she was perfect (even the voice) for the first Velma of the great revival of Chicago. Yes, that is definite. But, overall, Chita was the perfect Velma, and she has the whole package for Velma.
anyway, now I'm off again. I can't stop grieving for the whole cast, crew, and such of The Addams Family...

HA! That'd be great Jordan. I'd buy a 2nd copy and not open it just to have that!

Actually, sans Finian's (which played great on stage and on disc) I think most of this season's offerings were better on disc. I've listened to Memphis and Night Music often and didn't love either live.

To answer your question: no. I see no problem with the show NOT being nominated.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

When I saw the nominations I thought "You could nominate 'Cry Baby, with a straight face, but you didn't nominate 'Addams Family'?"

But I always remember that award shows are not only about celebrating what you like, but also about snubbing what you don't like.
