Hey, I recently got cast in the tour of Lost in Yonkers and I can't really seem to find any information about it. If anyone knows, could you tell me what happens and what the character arty does? If so, thank you soo much

Didn't you do a little research prior to your audition? You can buy the play on Amazon. How about reading it?

I've watched clips from the movie and I'm waiting to get the script. I did do some research but it doesn't explain much. Is it a big role? and those kind of questions

You could buy the play and DVD online on Amazon. It is a small investment to make for your job.

Yes, it is a very big role. Not the lead, but Jay and Arty carry a lot of the show.

millie_dillmount, actors go on dozens of auditions all the time. Sometimes several a week. There is absolutely no way for an actor to know every play backwards and forwards before they go into their auditions/callbacks. Usually they are too busy figuring out/memorizing/practicing the sides.

And there is absolutely no reason to be rude to an actor who was just cast and is trying to get more information. Especially one who is obviously a young teenager.

You can TRY to be tactful.

Oh, please. The OP didn't ask for information about a character going into the audition, they asked for information AFTER they've been cast. Doing some research before rehearsals begin is a wonderful thing, expected even, but said research should be done with a script, NOT a message board.

for all you know, he was cast five minutes before he posted the message. and he figured with all the knowledgeable people on BWW, he could rely on them to initially help him out. but it turns out the only thing BWW is good for are snippy comments.

A tour?

You don't know much about the play, you use the term "casted" and you come to a message board for help. Oh, please!

Use the plot summary that someone else suggested. It'll help you discover all the nuances of the character and the richness of Neil Simon's dialogue.

Please post the stops this "tour" makes. I'd hate to wander into a performance by mistake.

Its a pick-up truck tour on the Chitlin Circuit. I believe all the roles will be performed in white-face.

I'm sensing that monkeybutt is about twelve years old and this "tour" he's been "casted" in consists of the actors traveling from streetcorner to streetcorner on their scooters.

What's the problem? I am not being rude. I asked him a question, which he answered, and I told him that he could buy the book or movie on Amazon. It is a small investment for being cast in the role on a tour. Is it not?

Even if he had many auditions and it didn't find time to research a role, now that he has been cast, he could take some initiative and buy the movie or the book. Or, I'm sure his local library has a copy of the book or movie since he is waiting for a copy of the script from the director. He said he had trouble finding information about it, and the best place to start is by actually reading the book.

I don't care how old you are, how many auditions you go on a day or week - know what you're auditioning for. Or, at least have some idea. I'm spending more time on 'the other side of the table' lately, and I'm finding it's a big turn off for directors and casting directors when actors aren't familiar with the project. And those that aren't, the smart ones anyway, ask questions once they're in the room.

Congrats Monkeybutt. It's a great show!

To the OP- Where is this show? I am actually seeing a production of Lost in Yonkers in January, I wonder if it's the same one. And Arty is a great role, in what is my favorite non-musical.

Was Monkeybutt listing where he might be in January (per bwayfan7000's post), because Lost in Yonkers is playing at the Maltz Jupiter Theater from December 1-13, 2009 and in the Cleveland Playhouse from January 8-31, 2010.

Monkey- I will be seeing you at the Cleveland Playhouse in January then! I had a feeling that you might have been talking about the production I was seeing, because many of the productions there go to another theater either before or after it runs in at the Cleveland Playhouse.

There's almost a one month gap between venues.

I guess they have to give the cast ample time to get from one place to another on their scooters.
