backstage help??

i'm going to be heading to nyc in a couple weeks and i was hoping to get backstage at the show i'm going to. I do have connections, i'm acquainted with the star of the show (i won't mention who or what show) but i really don't know how to go about asking, is it rude to even ask? i'd just hate to be a bother. help??

also, does it take any planning or could they invite me while i'm there?

When you say “acquainted,” do you mean you’re friends in real life? Or some kind of social media thing?

If I were you I'd just tell your acquaintance in the show that you bought tickets to his/her show on this date and that you planned your nyc trip around that. Let him/her make the initiative to invite you backstage.

Ask actor to meet up post performance. They’ll just leave your name at the stage door so just walk in and say you’re there to see so-and-so. So you don’t wander around and get lost they’ll call up to the actor and either they let you go to the dressing room on your own or actor will come down to get you. You just mention to actor you’d love to see backstage and they’ll gladly take you around. Backstages are tiny so it’s not even a 3-5 minute tour. It not a big deal to them at all.

It's simple. You either let them know you're coming and they'll put you on a list or you can tell the stage door person who you're there to see and they'll confirm you can go back or tell you to go wait outside like the people stage dooring.

both, i've met him a couple times and we talk just occasionally online, i don't think i'd call us friends though? Actually the last time i went to see the show, a close friend of the actor mentioned that they could've gotten me backstage but they had to head out of town
