"bloopers on stage" stories? — Page 3

I'm sure we're not trying to suggest that Broadway performers are unprofessional or that we're actually making fun of them. People make mistakes, and it's fun to read about. Most of the time, the stories end with the actors laughing it off and going on with the show. There's no malicious intent here.

I love when actors make little mistakes! It makes the show more memorable, and like someone else mentioned, it's one of the joys and thrills of live theatre!
-When I saw Wicked for my 10th time...The actress playing Glinda (who will go un-named), missed a line when she was mentioning to Morrible & The Wizard about how to capture Elphaba. I didn't notice it, but some other fans and my mom did. She missed the whole line!
-On the Wicked Tour in 2006, during the middle of For Good, there was some really weird boom...about 30 seconds later, the mics went out and you couldn't hear Elphaba and Glinda singing. They kept singing, probably not even realizing something was wrong. They finished the song, started laughing, hugged, and then a stage-hand pulled the curtain they use for Elphie's melting all the way out, and they announced that there were some technical difficulties.
-On July 29th, 2006 Tina Maddigan kicked her shoe into the audience during Not That Kind Of Thing at The Wedding Singer! During a scene, the man who caught it sneaked up to the stage and dropped it in a shopping bag. Then when Richard came out, he mentioned about Tina only having one shoe on. She laughed about it and put the other one in the bag. It was a riot! And the audience laughed and clapped for a minute or so. At curtain calls, her applause was SO loud! It was great.

When I saw the original production of "Annie", I believe Allison Smith was playing her and she sat down on the floor to start "Tomorrow". Of course everyone had been waiting for this moment and then it happened. Sandy started heaving. A low "uh oh" murmur was heard through out the theater, would he or wouldn't he? He did, and trooper Allison never missed a beat. They had moving belts that would take the actors off and on stage and right after the song, a guy in a period trench coat and hat rode out on the belt, jumped off, cleaned up and jumped back on and off he went to great applause.

This is an old one. Tallulah Bankhead was doing a non-very-good play with Glenn Anders. At one point, Glenn was supposed to come onstage after hearing on onstage gun go off and react to the the afflicated character's condition. Unfortunately, Tallulah was regaling the offstage cast, including Glenn, with her stories. Glenn almost missed his entrance cue and, separating himself from Tallulah, ran onstage and shouted, "I thought I heard a flesh wound." Then, examining the victim, he said, "Thank God, it's only a shot." You could hear Tallulah's offstage laughter throughout the auditorium.

Don't know if it constitutes a blooper, but I was at a matinée of the Rosie "Grease" revival. The intermission seemed longer than usual when Rosie appeared through the curtain and tearfully announced Marcia Lewis had fallen into a trap door. She said it would be a little more time to see if she was alright. The show did resume and Marcia finished the show. A few months later I asked Marcia about it and said she was lucky but spent a lot of time at the chiropractor because of it.

The first one was commented on by Shoshana herself on her blog she did backstage. The second, was a bootleg, and the third with Mary Poppins was also another bootleg. Everyone already knows these things, lol

I saw Wicked in its early days, the day after Thanksgiving 2003. A loud crash/thump happened off-stage and the cast visibly flinched.

Without missing a beat, Chenowith rubbed her belly and ad-libbed "too much turkey yesterday."

I recently say Wicked on tour in Boston with Victoria Matlock and Christina Decicco. During the catfight, when Victoria said the bubble line, Christina started cracking up. Both of them did...it was hilarious...and cute!

I saw "The Show Off" at the Roudabout years ago and it takes place in the 1920s. The actor was reading a newspaper at a dinner table and it was the New York Post of the day of the show and the headline on the sports section was about David Cone and the Toronto Blue Jays neither of which existed in the Twenties.

When I saw Spamalot, the dialogue in the Prince Herbert scene between Lewis Cleale (his father) and Tom Deckman (Herbert) was supposed to be this:

Lewis Cleale: Listen, Alice...
Tom Deckman: Herbert.
Lewis Cleale: Herbert...

And instead it was:

Lewis Cleale: Listen, Herbert...
Tom Deckman: (after a confused pause) Yes, Herbert...

Also, that night - maybe the sound guy was asleep, I dunno, but everyone's mics weren't on for one line in the Act Two Finale. When Robin runs out and says, "And I too have found my grail!" everyone is supposed to respond with, "What's that?"

Well, instead of a rousing shout from the entire ensemble, it looked like everyone onstage mouthed the line, while one tinny female voice yelled from what sounded like offstage: "WHAT'S THAT?"
