Cast Recordings are NOT a big business. They don't even come close to selling as well as most popular music. Though we all love them, the market of people who buy these recordings is quite small.

The vast majority of genres of music are just as unpopular...with recording technology as accesible as it is and the internet making practically everything marketable, I would say every show of any signficance should get a recording.

Popular shows rarely sell so why are record companies going to preserve less popular ones & even flops ?

We are lucky at what even gets recorded

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I'm still puzzled as to why Decca Broadway refuses to put DON'T BOTHER ME, I CAN'T COPE on CD. It ran over 1,000 performance (The ONLY Broadway show to run over 1,000 performances and not have its CD remastered!), won a Grammy, had a great score, and it's still performed in community theatres. Geez!

Praying Decca Broadway will put "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope" on CD!

DOes Decca Broadway have the rights to DON'T BOTHER ME...? I recall reading somehwere that while they got some Polydor titles others (GREASE for example) they do not control.

Maybe drop Brian Druteman a line and ask about any plans for it.

JIMMY and INNER CITY are both on the list.

Both of these virtually went into release in the cutout bins. (I have NEVER seen a copy of INNER CITY without teh cover clipped. Same with SUGAR!)

But if CLOWNAROUND can come out on CD anythging is possible!

Actually FRC2, I left a couple of messages to Brian at the old Decca Broadway board. Didn't seem much interested. Pity.

Although GOODTIME CHARLEY is out of print, copies do surface on E-bay, at Amazon and in used CD stores.
