i think christina definitely was cute... but her singing and dancing really wasn't that great at all. I don't care how "bad" Brooklyn is supposed to be... Eden deserved that nom way more than Christina in my opinion. Christina is definitely appealing and got me kinda wanting to see her in the show, but I bought DRS instead.

ok, again I'll say I'm not familiar with Sweet Charity, and ljay kindly let me know that the character is not meant to be a reallllllllllly amazing singer.

That being said, I wasnt overly impressed with her singing, but she MOST CERTAINLY deserved the nomination over Eden. And Brooklyn in general. MOST definately.

Please, for the love of God people.....MOVE THE HELL ON!!

We, who enjoyed Sweet Charity, get your following points:

Christina sucks and should be shot.
Cilento sucks and should be shot.
Bobbie sucks and should be shot.
Anyone who dares to touch the great Fosse'work should be shot.
Anyone who enjoyed this rendition of Sweet Charity is obviously retarded and should have been alive when Gwen Verdon and Bob Fosse did this show in 1966.

Seriously people, there have been much worse performances at the Tony's than what you all apparently had to "sit through" last night in Christina's performance. Why, some performances from last night's Tony's broadcast sucked even more:

Pathetic "Somewhere" rendition
Horribly staged "Razzle Dazzle"
"Never Gonna Dance" Hugh Jackman embarrassment

And Christina managed to be the highlight of the evening with her fall from the lampost bit.

That just kills you Charity Haters, doesn't it?

oh GOD I couldnt stop laughing when she fell. AHHH that was great, it was

p.s. before on the grading the performances, i didnt mean that i hate her. I think shes beautiful and talented. but seeing as how im not familiar with the show, i wasnt really expecting that.

again, that being said, I do like her.

You know what I say?

I would like to see all these people knocking Christina JUST TRY to get up there 8x a week, and do what she does. Try performing on a broken foot, etc. They would fail miserably, and I would laugh hysterically.

Sallybrown,
My post wasn't aimed at you directly. I am actually glad that you are willing to give the show a chance after hearing from lijay that the role is not meant for a powerhouse singer. I hope you enjoy it, I really do. Many people and some critics do.

I just had to get the rant off my chest; I am tired of these Charity Haters (as I have dubbed them) invading every single thread with their negativity.

It would have been a stunt double for anyone doing a move like that. No producer would risk any star of their show taking a fall like that.

I LOVED watching her climb up onto the stage from the pit, though. Her flair for comedy was apparant through her actions and dialogue following the stunt!

hehehehe still hilariously funny

Can I just say one thing? I cannot STAND it when people say, "I'd like to see you do 8x a week blah blah blah." If I were to say I think Christina sucks (and I do) that doesn't mean that I think that *I* can do better than her. But the fact is, there are thousands of people out there who would cut off their right hand to take that role, and at least a handful of them, I assure you, could do MUCH better than her.

Thus, we can judge her just as much as we want to. She's not perfect, and she put herself on the Broadway stage and therefore opened herself up to criticism.

Critisism, yes.

Bashing? No need. There's a big difference between critiquing someone's performance and simply slamming them.

DISCLAIMER: I am not saying that you, bella cantato, are slamming her.

I also thought about others who might be able to do this role as well, and couldn't come up with more then two who MIGHT have worked. Not thousands.

One already had the chance and critics didn't appreciate her efforts. The other is dead.

i agree i too was not extremely impressed with her last night and don't quite understand the big hype about her fighting to keep the show alive. I'm not saying she sucks i'm just not saying she was great either.

I'm kind of a sweat pant, t-shirt, no make-up type of girl. So once a year, I can get spiffy. Sutton Foster :)

Just to clarify-- I didn't say that thousands could do the role better than her. I just said that thousands would WANT to... and at least a few handfuls, in my opinion, coul probably do it better.

That aside, I apologize for using the term "sucks." I was caught up in the moment. I just can't stand it when people say "well you can't talk because you don't know what it's like..." I mean, they're in the industry! They're going to have criticism! re: christina?

honestly, i think christina is cute as hell ... she probably is entertaining to watch. even if the part is not a singer, I just think its sad that girls at my HS sing better. And Eden also performs 8x a week

Christina is obviously not a singer or dancer, but she just looked so happy to be a part of "Sweet Charity" that it pardoned a lot. She definitely has buckets of charm (and let's not forget that she was the only really good thing about "Anchorman."

If anything or anyone from BROOKLYN recieved a nomination - ESPECIALLY Eden Espinoza - no one would have taken the Tonys seriously. She's terrible - jesus.

I didn't know we were taking them seriously after Spamalot's win.
