i have lost all respect for the tonys. such a shame.
You actually had respect for the Tonys?
It is so sad when I only enjoyed one of the four nominated musicals...I hope IN THE HEIGHTS takes it.

WAT - c'mon, admit it! You *loved* XANADU!
How could the producers of Cry-Baby buy a nomination? After their debacle of a show, they only have $4 left between them.

Well I ask myself, how many new musicals were there to take up the slots?
Seven.
A CATERED AFFAIR
CRY-BABY
IN THE HEIGHTS
THE LITTLE MERMAID
PASSING STRANGE
XANADU
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
Leading Actor Joined: 11/16/06
Well, I lost al respect for the Tony's last year when The Pirate Queen was completely shunned. Okay, no best musical nom was necessary, but they deserved noms for Stephanie J Block as Leading Actress, Hadley Fraser as Leading Actor, Scenic, Lighting and ESPECIALLY costumes.

Yeah I would think that whatever money they have would be going towards keeping their show running, since they're not exactly raking it in over at the Marquis.
A good friend of mine is having dinner with Mark O'Donnell this evening. Can't wait to chat with her tomorrow!

IT IS BLASPHEMY!!!!
(I think that's my new favorite word.)
It's mind boggling, isn't it?
A CATERED AFFAIR is a warm, moving, lovely show with a beautiful score and a sweet book.
I'm going back to sleep and when I wake I hope it was just a nightmare.
It's not that...
You have to remember that the nominators do more than just nominate shows that they like.
They also DO NOT nominate show that they DON'T LIKE or that have annoyed them.
"Young Frankenstein" and "The Little Mermaid" annoyed them.
I would say that it was a toss-up for the nominators between "Cry Baby" and "A Catered Affair". And "A Catered Affair" is a small show as are several of the other nominated shows. "Cry Baby" is a big splashy musical and the people who book shows for those large theatres across the country like to see that there are big shows that, hopefully, can fill up their twenty-four hundred seat theatres.

Curtain, it's heartbreaking, really. Though mind boggling is a great term for it, too. It really disgusts me and I'm taking it far too personally.
I personally thought ACA was glorious. This CRY-BABY business is just... ridiculous.
Ok, now Theatre2 is never going to go away!! Thanks Tonys!!

It's an abomination unto the Lord. Clearly, the worst thing to ever happen ever on the face of the earth. Jesus is weeping today. If God hadn't been so damn busy with the pointless typhoon & earthquake he would have stopped this somehow, right?
Does this mean they're making an OBCR? that's unfortunate...
Cry-Baby makes me so sick. in some ways, I understand it getting the nomination for "Best Musical" (because we know it's not going to win) but for BEST SCORE???? SERIOUSLY????
That was the weakest part of the show. C'mon now. Where is the g'damn love for Mr. Buchinno???

I don't understand how Bucchino was ignored. A stellar composer, his first work on Broadway and... just... ignored?

I completely agree. However, I am one of the very few who loves Cry-Baby so I am pleased that they got a few decent nominations and I do not think they are undeserved either.
Good luck to Cry-Baby!

I can understand them wanting to nominate one of the "bigger" shows, but c'mon, A Catered Affair deserved the score nomination over Little Mermaid.
How many times do we have to say that the nominating comitee could care less about whether a show will tour or not?
That's the voters and even that is a small percentage.
Love to Bucchino and Harve, You guys rock!
I can't get over CRY-BABY getting a "Best Score" nod over A CATERED AFFAIR.
what were they thinking????
Yeah, this is pretty mind-boggling, at least for me. I feel so bad for the casts of Young Frankenstein, Catered Affair, and Mermaid...They must be going, WTF?? Why?
